The red-eared grebe is a resident bird. Sexually active, often in small groups of more than 10, sometimes in large groups of more than 20-30, sometimes with red-rumped quails and yellow-rumped plovers. Spend most of the day moving and foraging in the canopy of trees or shrubland. Good chirping, the sound is light and pleasant, like "cloth-cloth-cloth" or "wei-kick-wow" sound. Usually jumping and foraging while chirping. Omnivorous, but mainly plant-based food, common pecking at trees and shrub seeds, fruits, flowers and grasses, especially banyan trees, tang plums, heather, blue indigo and other trees and shrub fruits. Animal food is mainly insects and insect larvae such as Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera and Hymenoptera.
