In many cases, we will think about a question: if we had chosen another path at the crucial fork in life, would it be better today? The movie "The Birth of a Word" gives us the answer: on the road of life, which road to choose is not so important, what is important is actually ourselves.
"The Birth of a Word" was released in Hong Kong in 1997, directed by Wei Jiahui and starring Liu Qingyun and Wu Zhenyu. The name sounds strange, and many people don't know this masterpiece. The current Douban score is 8.3.

The story of "The Birth of a Word" is like this: Hongmen's little brother Ah Dog experienced two different choices at the age of 32, creating two completely different endings. In the first part, the gang involved in smuggling black cars to Zhanjiang, these gangs are all rabble-rousers, doing things in a mess, and eventually dying elsewhere; the second part, choosing to go to Taiwan with kittens to be killers, lecture on morality, and finally coincidentally, but they succeed and become the boss of the "one" word (gangster).
These two choices seem to be different, in fact, they are all nine deaths: the first, A Dog and the seven brothers together transported the black car to the mainland, did not earn a penny, and later everyone was killed for participating in the robbery of the bank; the second, Ah Dog went down to Taiwan as a killer under the persuasion of the kitten, and as a result, he took 2 murder jobs, and finally met the brothers, and almost because they were killed by the underworld. The result is a death and a wealth, why is the difference so big?
The most core point is only in the dog himself: the dog in the first story is cowardly, sloppy, impulsive, irritable, bullied, and dies without understanding what he wants and what he will do. I began to lose the money robbed by the massage parlor; when I buried Ah Bao, I buried the machine together; I couldn't drive when I got to the mainland! And so on. This is a typical example of not understanding yourself, not understanding how many pounds you have, and still vainly trying to do a big job with a group of talented people.
He didn't understand himself, and of course he didn't recognize these friends: these people had nothing left to eat, what they couldn't do, they were unorganized and undisciplined, and they had no money to pretend to be uncles. They don't do anything other than do anything wrong, and they go around shirking their responsibilities. At the beginning, I didn't give money for eating and massage, I drove a car to kill my brother Ah Bao, a group of people were angry and took a speedboat, and they actually fell into the sea and died, which almost made me laugh to death and get rid of an absurd comedy.
The final result is obvious, a group of rabble-rousers, and then did a series of unreliable things, and finally the whole army was destroyed, and the guests died in other places.
The second part starts from the massage parlor, and the plot twist is due to the change of Ah Dog himself: he did not rob with his friends, but took out his watch to settle the account, and said: No matter how unlucky we are, we are all Hongmen, and no matter how poor we are, we must take care of the image. At this moment, he finally understood what was his bottom line and principle, what he should do, and how to do it.
At this moment, he also saw clearly what kind of people his friends were. Meals can be eaten together, massages can be taken together, but it is absolutely impossible to rely on them to do things. Since then, they have parted ways, and the kitten has chosen to follow Ah Dog and go to Taiwan with him. When he arrived in Taiwan, he didn't have money to eat, and the kitten chose to rob the woman, and A Dog stopped him in time, saying: We are Hongmen, not the smashing party!
Later, when he was shot to the head by the underworld boss, he still had to protect his little brother and said the most important passage in the movie:
I'm Chinese New Year's Eve two years old today, and if you point a gun at my head today and I'll let you kill three of my friends, then I've only been a rotten boy in eighteen years!
At this moment, everyone was shocked by his words. In the end, Hongmen took a fancy to his righteousness, so he set up a separate Tangkou in Taiwan and became Hongmen's liaison in Taichung, and a word was born from then on.
These two experiences seem so absurd: in the first paragraph, Ah Bao, Xiao Chun, and Ah Bao's wife died strangely, and there is an inexplicable sense of joy; in the second paragraph, the kitten inexplicably took 2 killing jobs, and did not expect to kill the employer (black brother and white brother), and Ah Dog was finally hit by a stray bullet and so on. The film has a typical black humor style, paired with a beep... Doodle... This slightly eerie soundtrack, with comedy in the tragedy, complements each other perfectly.
Two absurd life implications: what to choose is actually not so important, the most important thing is yourself. No matter how many coincidences there are in life, fate only depends on yourself and what kind of person you want to be. In today's terms, it is "from the heart", doing what you want to do and what you should do. Of course, you can't do whatever you want, you must first understand what you are suitable for, what kind of ability you have, and then see the friends around you, and finally it is possible to succeed.
It's not a crossover movie, and it's not like the protagonists of Source Code and Edge of Tomorrow, who keep reading the file and starting over until we make the best choice. There is no if in life, no matter how many roads there are, we can only take one. So, take "from the heart" as the criterion and bravely move forward!
Good movies, you have to watch more. The only regret is that this movie has not found a high-definition (please forgive me for the slag picture), and Liu Qingyun's textbook acting skills in the movie cannot be looked at carefully: his only promise in the first paragraph and the resolute and courageous in the second paragraph are very wonderful. Unfortunately, such a wonderful performance was not nominated for the Academy Awards, and in the end, the film only won one award for best soundtrack at the 17th Academy Awards.
In fact, there are many things in this movie that are worth savoring, such as being a good big brother first learns to pay (responsibility and responsibility). I won't go into detail here, and the rest is left for you to discover for yourself.
