The Telegraph: United see Villa midfielder McGinn as a target for the summer window

According to an exclusive report by the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United have identified Aston Villa midfielder John McKin as a target for the summer window.

Darren Fletcher, who is currently United's technical director, greatly appreciates his compatriot John McGinn. United hope to bring in the Scotland international while finalizing a new manager in the summer. United are currently looking for a replacement for Solsk, while many of the team's players are underperforming and their future is uncertain. Midfield is an important draw-out direction for them in the summer, and McGinn is within their consideration.

The 27-year-old McGinn and Aston Villa have two years left on their contract and are also seen as an important step in Villa's future development, and if the player and Villa fail to complete the renewal, then this summer will be the club's last chance to exchange for a huge transfer fee. Villa is expected to offer him a new contract with McGinn, who is not currently Villa's highest-paid player. Because of his suspension, he did not play against Manchester United and Villa. He is now the leader of Villa's dressing room and in Scotland he is also taken in by Fletcher and Sir Ferguson.

Manchester United could have signed McGinn last summer, but at that time Manchester United's primary consideration was not him, although he and Villa still have two years left in the contract, McGinn's value is about 40 million pounds, if they can transfer then Villa will sell their core players in two summer slots, last summer Manchester City signed Glalish for 100 million pounds.

United have been studying their goals for this year's summer window since last year's summer window. They are likely to sign multiple midfielders this summer, another overhaul is underway and the next manager is expected to get support in the window as the club looks to get back on track. Manchester United are currently 24 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City. Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Mata and Cavani are due at the end of the season, with some other players likely to leave. Anthony Martial, Van der Beek, Henderson, Bailey, Jones and Nemanja Matic are all uncertain about their future.

United's interest in Bellingham has also been for some time, with the club wanting to sign him in 2020, but the 18-year-old England midfielder chose Borussia Dortmund. If Dort release Harland in the summer, the expectations for Bellingham to leave Dortmund this year are slim. Manchester United are one of the few clubs that can afford Rice's £100 million valuation, but both Manchester City and Chelsea have a strong interest in him.

Since joining Hibernian as a free agent in the summer of 2015, McGinn's career development has been outstanding. In the summer of 2018, he joined Villa, who was still in the Championship at the time, and scored the winning goal in the promotion play-off final of that season. After taking over as club manager in November, Gerrard spoke of the player as a key part of his plan.
