Schrödinger: "My Worldview"

Schrödinger originally planned his life to be a physics teacher while studying philosophy.
In 1960, the year before his death, he summed up his life this way:
"In 1918, when I was 31 years old, I was very likely to get a faculty position in theoretical physics (to succeed Geetler) in Częstochowa. At that time, I was ready to teach theoretical physics well, following the extraordinary lectures of my beloved teacher Fritz Hazenel (who unfortunately died in the First World War), and the rest of the time I intended to devote myself wholeheartedly to philosophy and to spend the good time with the writings of Spinoza, Schopenhauer, Mach, Richard Simon and Richard Affinarius."
Soon after, Częstochowa was occupied by the Germans and no longer belonged to Austria. Schrödinger had to make adjustments.
"So none of these plans came to fruition." I had to specialize in theoretical physics, and, unexpectedly, I was able to get something out of it."
