The film shows an unprecedented super-strong earthquake disaster: road collapse, bridge rupture, city fire, building explosion, thrilling scenes that make the audience who love disaster movies addicted. A few days ago, the film's director Brad Payton was interviewed by the 1905 Film Network, and he stressed more than once that he wanted his film to contain both breathtaking scenes and humanistic reflections on family and emotions, in his words, "I want everything." ”
"Doomsday Collapse" is brad Payton and Dawn Johnson's third collaboration, and Payton revealed that the two have established a fairly harmonious tacit understanding, and he also said that Dwayne Johnson's own positive energy has benefited him a lot. Speaking about his goals in the director's career, Brad Payton admits that he hopes to make works that make him proud, "My most important goal is to try my best to make works that can entertain the public and stand the test of time." ”
1905 Movie Network: What was your inspiration for Doomsday Collapse?
Brad Payton: My inspiration... Only two movies inspired me – Titanic and Son of Man. Titanic is probably the best disaster movie I've ever seen for me, so good that you wouldn't even think it's a disaster movie, but more like a love story. And "Son of Man" is a science fiction genre film, and it is also very dramatic. I love these two movies because one is the most breathtaking Hollywood movie you can think of, and the other is very great and real. So I felt like I could blend elements from these two films together, and that's the type of film I wanted to make.
1905 Movie Network: What preparations did you make to present this unprecedented earthquake?
Brad Payton: For Doomsday Collapse, I wanted it to look real enough, so we did a lot of our homework. We looked up a lot of information, but when you really want to shoot a earthquake with the highest magnitude in history, you still need to use your imagination, because there is no real case to tell you what a magnitude 9.6 earthquake is like, we can only imagine it on the actual case, but there are always ways to explore these possibilities.
1905 Movie Network: What do you hope this movie will teach audiences?
Brad Payton: I want them to be entertained, and I want the audience to be really happy. I want to give the audience epic big scene special effects, but also want to give the audience enough entertainment, I hope to bring them a vivid character image, a breathtaking moment, an emotional moment. I make movies because I want to feel something, I want to make people happy and happy, make people sad and cry, make people applaud, make people feel afraid, I want everything.
For this film, I tried my best to do that, and I wanted to do everything I could to give the audience everything I could. For example, there is a very funny little boy Ollie in the film, of course, Dawn is also very humorous, but also very heroic. In the end, this movie is about people's spirits, we all go through tough times in our lives, and we're also knocked down by some important things, what matters is how you get yourself back on your feet.
1905 Movie Network: How does it feel to work with Dwayne Johnson again?
Brad Payton: I love working with Dawn, he's fantastic. The other person is nice and very interesting, and he is a good actor, and more importantly he is a good person. Working with him is very relaxed and enjoyable, he is a good partner and a good talker. He also has the same goals as me, he wants to create good characters, he wants to make good movies. So when you work with such a star, such a real movie star, everything becomes easy, when you are tired, exhausted, full of messes, and it is really helpful to be with someone who has that smile and always has a good mood. The kind of people who can make people willing to surround him are amazing, they have very positive energy.
1905 Movie Network: As a young director after the 80s, what are your goals in your career as a director?
Brad Payton: My goal is actually to make myself happy, but it's also quite difficult. I'm very strict with myself, and sometimes I'm very entangled, and I'm upset with myself in some things. But it will also inspire me to devote myself to work every day, not afraid of hardship and tiredness, to integrate into the film with the actors, to make movies to the best of my ability, and to lead the whole crew. My main goal, frankly, is to make a film that will be remembered, something that can not be forgotten, that can stand the test of time, and that people will remember for a long time. I want to come up with good work, I want to make something that I can be proud of, something that represents an individual. My most important goal is to try my best to make works that will entertain the public and stand the test of time.
