The team, made up of former police officers, military intelligence officers and journalists, determined that Gary Francis Poste was the Zodiac killer.
From 1968 to 1969, zodiac killers terrorized Northern California, a name that has become synonymous with fugitive murderers. The murderer, who was notorious for shooting and killing at least five people, sent a series of mysterious mocking letters to the local police.
Although the Zodiac killers almost invited the police to arrest him, they never did so. Today, decades later, a panel of 40 former law enforcement investigators from the self-proclaimed "Case Solver" group claims to have cracked the Zodiac Killer case.

Based on eyewitness testimony, newly obtained physical and forensic evidence, and photographs of the suspect's own darkroom, the "solver" claims that a former U.S. Air Force veteran named Gary Francis Post was a zodiac killer. The man they mentioned died in 2018 and his family has been reluctant to answer media inquiries about the matter.
Tom Colbert, a member of the crime-solving team, said: "I am 100% sure that we solved this case. The group also claims to have resolved some outstanding cases, such as the November 24, 1971 D. Bush. B. Cooper (D.B Cooper) hijacked and the July 30, 1975 disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.
After years of investigating the mystery of the Zodiac Killer, the "Solver" believes that the scar on Post's forehead matches the police sketch of the killer. They also claim that removing the letters of Post's name from the zodiac killer's password seems to have changed the message. The killer sent 4 passwords, two of which had already been deciphered.
Jen Bucholtz, a former U.S. Army counterintelligence agent, explains: "So you have to know Gary's full name to decipher these anagrams. I just don't think there's any other way for people to find the answer. ”

In addition, the "solver" claims that Gary Francis Post also murdered Cheri Jo Bates on October 31, 1966, two years before the first "official" zodiac killer murder. They declared her the "sixth" victim of the killer.
But not everyone is convinced that the zodiac killer's case has been solved. After the "cracker" issued a statement, the San Francisco office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that the Zodiac killer case is still under investigation.
One officer went even further, insisting that the theory of a "case solver" was completely off topic. A Sergeant Ryan of riverside County Police was asked, "Is it possible that Post killed Shelly Joe Bates?" He replied, "No." ”
He added: "If you read what the case-solving program publishes, you'll see that it's all circumstantial evidence. That's not all. ”
The "case solvers" believe that the police simply refused to consider their theories out of pride. Bill Proctor, a former police officer and TV news anchor, a member of the "Solvers," said: "The real problems are related to ego and arrogance. ”
In fact, the police did initially believe that the Zodiac Killer had murdered Bates, and the investigators received a letter after Bates' death that seemed to be similar to the Zodiac Killer's modus operandi.

The investigators also pointed to a paint-stained watch collected at the scene, as well as a footprint. Post was a house painter who seemed to be in line with both zodiac killers.
Still, the Riverside County Police Department remained convinced that the Zodiac Killer had not killed Shelly Joe Bates.
Riverside County Police said: "Our Homicide Unsolved Unit has determined that the murder of Shelly Joe Bates in 1966 was not related to the Zodiac Killer. ”
But some people who knew Gary Francis Post thought he looked exactly like the Zodiac Killer. His neighbors said Post controlled and abused his wife. After reading the evidence of the "solver", she is convinced that Post is the murderer.
According to the neighbor, "He lived a double life, and in retrospect, I've grown up and everything makes sense." In my teenage years, I didn't connect facts to facts until I was older. I suddenly realized that Post was the Zodiac Killer. ”
In an interview with Wil, the "Zodiac Killer" whistleblower, the "solver" learns that Will is suspected of escaping a "criminal gang" led by Post in the Serry Heights area of California. Will claims that Post turned him into a "killing machine" and that he witnessed him bury the murder weapon. He also said post likes to hunt animals and likes to fiddle with corpses.
Of course, the "solver" is by no means the first person to think that he has solved the mystery of the zodiac killer. In June 2021, a French engineer, Fayçal Ziraoui, claimed he cracked the last two codes of the Zodiac killer. One of the codes featured a line that said the murderer's name, which Zillavi interpreted as "Lawrence Kaye," a longtime suspect in the Zodiac Killer murders.

In 2011, a former California Patrol officer also claimed to have confirmed the identity of the Zodiac killer. He said the killer was a 91-year-old former real estate salesman who used the pseudonym "Andrew Todd Walker."
Has the mystery of the Zodiac Killer been solved? So far, police say no. But if Gary Francis Post is really the killer, then the "solver" solves a mystery from 50 years ago.
