Carpets given to Pope Francis by the UAE sold for $80,000 as an NFT

On January 15, the NFTs of historic Pontifex carpets were sold for 25 Ether (about $81,800) on Friday to raise money for Afghanistan, khaleej times reported. The NFT is adorned with a gorgeous gold frame on a 165 cm digital canvas, and the buyer will receive a physical replica of the carpet.

Woven by Afghan women, Pontifex carpets were originally presented to Pope Francis during his visit to the Vatican in September 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The two leaders met to discuss strengthening existing diplomatic relations and promoting interreligious harmony.

The carpet physical dimensions are 272 cm x 183 cm, made by Pope Francis Bout Zulea (FMBI) retail department, replica size is 187 cm x 125 cm to give away to anyone who buys it as an NFT.
