Manchester United, Marcus Rashford are still focused on new deals despite their slump in form

United will prioritise signing a new contract with Marcus Rashford this summer, although there are fears within the club that the striker has been looking for his best form.

The 24-year-old's current tenure at Old Trafford expires in June 2023, although United could choose to extend those terms for another 12 months, and sources say they fully intend to do so to ensure the England international can join Manchester United. The club until the end of the 2023-24 season.

With midfielders Paul Pogba and Jesse Jesse Jesse Lingard both entering their final six-month contracts at United this month and preparing to leave as free agents in the summer, Old Trafford's hierarchy is determined to avoid a similar situation with Rashford, who has become one of the club's most notable players since he scored two goals for the first time against Central Jutland at the age of 18 on 2016.

Sources told ESPN that United believe Marcus Rashford is ready to dedicate his future to the club, but the poor form of the players is a problem that the coaching staff and seniors are determined to solve.

Manchester United interim boss Ralph Ronnick said after a mediocre faux Paix win over Aston Villa on Monday that he could not explain the striker's poor performance and recent form, having scored just three goals in all competitions this season.

United sources say Rashford endured a long-term shoulder injury for most of last season, which forced him to undergo corrective surgery in August 2021.

Apart from that, United believe he hasn't fully recovered from surgery and won't be able to build up enough game adaptation to get back to his best.

Sources also said United were eager for Rashford to spend some time focused on restoring his health and form, at the expense of off-field pursuits that left him with raised child hunger, homelessness and poverty in Britain.

But as United prepare to embark on a period of change, with Richard Arnold set to succeed Ed Woodward as CEO on Feb. 1, while the club is looking for a permanent manager to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, sources say, with Marcus Rashford not being off track because of other developments at the club.
