Shantou is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, one of the four cities of Chaoshan and one of the members of the Shantou Chaojie Metropolitan Circle, and a special economic zone. It is located at the southern end of the Han River Delta, bordering Chaozhou in the north, Jieyang in the west, and the South China Sea in the south, across the sea from Taiwan. The Han River, Rong River and Lianjiang River enter the sea and are the only cities in Chinese mainland with inner bays. The city administers 6 districts and 1 county, with a total area of 2198.7 square kilometers and a permanent population of 5.6648 million.
The territory of Shantou City is composed of chaoyang county, Chenghai county and Nan'ao county, which are the former chaozhou capitals. Leaving chao'an district of Chaozhou city and driving 20 kilometers and 37 minutes east, we came to The Chenghai District of Shantou City.
Chenghai District is located in the east of Guangdong Province, northeast of Shantou City, the mouth of the Han River Delta, northeast of Chaozhou City, Raoping County, Northeast of Chaozhou City, Northwest of Chaozhou City Chao'an District, Southwest of Shantou Longhu District, southeast of Nan'ao County across the sea. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the district, with a total area of 367 square kilometers, 3 subdistricts and 8 towns, and a permanent population of 827,000. Nan'ao Island is the only island county in Guangdong Province, with a total area of 113.8 square kilometers, consisting of Nan'ao Island and 37 surrounding islands, of which the main island is 111.44 square kilometers and the sea area is 4600 square kilometers. Leaving Nan'ao Island and driving west for 43 kilometers, 1 hour and 5 minutes, we came to the Longhu District of Shantou City.
Longhu District, named after the Longhu Ditch in its territory, is located in the northeast of Shantou City, bordering WaishaHe and Chenghai District to the northeast, Meixi River to the northwest and Chao'an District of Chaozhou City to the northwest, Jinping District to the west, and south and southeast to the South China Sea. The district has a total of 7 subdistricts, an area of 124.69 square kilometers, and a total population of about 900,000 people. Longhu District is the birthplace of Shantou Special Economic Zone and the downtown area of Shantou, the core area of Shantou Bay New Area and overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Cooperation Pilot Zone, with developed trade and logistics, and is the commercial and trade center of eastern Guangdong, a gathering place for finance, exhibition, securities and hotel industries. 20 kilometers and 38 minutes south of Jinping, you will arrive at Haojiang District of Shantou City.
Haojiang District is located in the southeast of Shantou City, on the south bank of Shantou Bay, with an area of 179 square kilometers (including tidal flats and water areas), a registered population of 297,000 people, and 7 subdistricts under its jurisdiction. Haojiang District is named after the Hao River that winds through the whole territory, and in October 1949, Dahao District Government was established; in 1952, Hepu was separated from the third district (Dahao District) and placed in the 11th District; in 2003, Dahao District and Hepu District were merged to form Haojiang District of Shantou City. Chaoyang District is located in the southeast of Guangdong Province, bordering the South China Sea, and is called Chaoyang because it is located in the north of the sea. In the sixth year (331) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Chaoyang County was established; from the Jin Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, it was subordinate to Nghe An County and Chaozhou Prefecture; in 1993, the county was withdrawn and set up as a city (county-level); in 2003, the county-level City of Chaoyang was abolished and divided into Chaoyang District and Chaonan District.
