According to the "Indian Express" reported on the 5th, on Tuesday, a 34-year-old Indian man was lynched by villagers, and the body was burned. Villagers accused him of cutting down trees in a place they considered sacred.

In the afternoon, Sanjay Pradhan of Chaprideepa, Jakhand, was dragged out of his home by a large group of angry villagers for not attending a meeting convened by villagers to discuss and resolve logging, police said. The mob took the man to a meeting place and lynched him near a market. When villagers allowed police to arrive at the scene, police found the man's charred body.

Bagat, head of the local police station, said villagers had earlier objected to the man cutting down trees in the area: "They don't want the logging to continue, so a meeting was held with the area's forest department last July. It was decided that Pradhan would not cut down trees in the area as this was an important place for the villagers. ”

However, the man recently began cutting down trees in the area again, angering the villagers. Police officer Bagat said: "The villagers held a meeting again, but Pradhan was not present. A group of angry villagers took him outside and beat him to death, and they also burned his body. We got the news and rushed to the scene. But only after consulting with the villagers can we reach the site of the incident. ”

The officer said no one had been arrested so far. More than 500 people were reported to have been lynched.

The deputy chief of the local police department called the incident "unfortunate", saying: "We are working to find out what happened to the killings." Indeed, the villagers thought that the place where the man had cut down trees was a sacred place... The Government and the police are working to bring the perpetrators to justice. ”
