Liverpool official: Due to the rapid increase in positive cases in the team, the first team training base is closed.
Liverpool's official announcement:
Liverpool Football Club confirmed that the first team training facilities at the training centre have been temporarily closed due to the rapid increase in the number of suspected COVID-19 positive cases within the team.
After the latest round of tests showed multiple new suspected positives, the Reds took action today to suspend the operation of training facilities.
The decision was made in consultation with the relevant public health authorities.
The new cases are in addition to the cases recorded on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Among the players and staff who tested positive in the latest round was Pepine Lindez (assistant coach), which led to the cancellation of Arsenal's pre-match press conference he had scheduled to host this morning.
The club has applied to the EFL to postpone thursday's first leg of the League Cup semi-final with the Gunners at Emirates Stadium. The application is currently awaiting results.
We will provide further updates on the reopening of the training centre in due course. (End of announcement)
