Today, Mr. Wang Shihao, NTO lecturer of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, explained the "penalty" in ice hockey.
Penalty Shot, translated Chinese rules as a free kick, is also known as "penalty kick" by the majority of fans.
The free kick execution process in ice hockey is unique, in that the team that wins the free kick assigns a player to control the ball from the center point of contention and then faces the opposing goalkeeper to complete the shot. The rest of both teams must return to the team and must not interfere with the execution of free kicks. Players who perform free kicks need to maintain the trend of the ball moving towards the goal, cannot retreat, and have only one chance to shoot, no make-up shots.
Penalty gesture for free kicks
In addition to the situation that the two teams have equal scores after extra time and enter the "penalty shootout", it is also possible to directly award a free kick due to a foul during the game, and the referee will cross his hands above his head when awarding a free kick.
Awarding a free kick should meet the following two conditions:
1. A player breaks through with the ball to form a "single knife", that is, there is no opposing player between the player and the opposing goalkeeper.
2. The player is fouled from behind by the opposing player, usually hooking, tripping, hitting with a stick, etc. Or speculation such as deliberately taking off the helmet and deliberately moving the goal by the opposing goalkeeper causes the game to stop.
Here, many fans have a misconception that the goal player cannot blow a free kick after being fouled from behind and still completing the shooting action. In the KHL rules, as long as the foul constitutes a penalty free kick, the attacking player will be awarded a free kick even if he completes the shooting action. This time, the International Ice Federation also referred to the KHL rules when revising the new rules for 2021-2022, and deliberately emphasized whether the offensive players completed the shooting action and did not affect the decision of free kicks.
Next, let's look at the two penalty cases in the Kunlun Hongxing competition.
/Case 1/
The first is from the Kunlun Hongxing game against the Torpedo team on December 23, Kunlun Hongxing team No. 13 player Shen Jialei completed the breakthrough, at this time, there was no opposing player between him and the opposing goalkeeper, the other No. 13 was forced to hook from behind, affecting Shen Jialei's shot, although Shen Jialei completed the shot, but the referee still awarded a free kick.
/Case 2/
The second is from the Kunlun Hongxing match against Dynamo Minsk on December 24, the Minsk Dynamo Team No. 20 Stromwell player formed a "single knife", Kunlun Hongxing defender Yan Ruinan went all out to chase but still could not catch up, and could only be forced to hit the foul with a rod from behind, although the Minsk Dynamo player completed the shot, but the referee still awarded a free kick.
