Team Building Game - Walk the Maze

Game Type: Team Building

Number of participants: Unlimited

Playtime: 40 minutes

Required documents: None

Venue Requirements: Vacant lots

Purpose of the event:

 Work together to reflect team spirit. It is important for students to feel the mindset in team communication.

Operating procedure:

1. The instructor draws a 10 by 10 or 12 by 12 or 9 by 9 maze on the ground in the shape of a Go board. The size of the maze depends on the number of people, generally more than 6 people can do this game. This is shown in Figure 1.

2. In the maze, the instructor draws a path at will, starting from A and ending B. This route is known only to the instructor.

3. The task of the trainee is to find the right route and get out of the maze, and must be all team members.

4. The rules of walking the maze are: you can go forward, left or right, but you can't go backwards and can't walk obliquely.

5. Once the game starts, team members can no longer speak or talk loudly, only gestures or movements are allowed.

6. In the process of the team member, if the route he chooses is correct, the lecturer does not speak; if it is wrong, the lecturer says: "Wrong". The team member had to return to the starting point the way he had just taken. If there is an error on the return, the total time of the whole team is added to 5 minutes.

7. The team's goal is to pass in the shortest possible time, which can be given by the instructor or determined by the team itself.

 What were your plans before you started walking the labyrinth? Where is the difficulty of this game? How did you solve it?

Would it be easier if you were allowed to talk as you walked? How did you overcome this obstacle?

 What do you think are the key points to success? What can you learn from this game?

Game Summary:

The mindset of communication is important, and sometimes it trumps the means.

 Team members have their own strengths, such as some people are good at remembering numbers; some are good at planning; a good team is to let these people play to their strengths. For example, in this game, people who are good at planning think about action steps, and people with good memory act as coordinates.

Editor's note

 This game can be applied to multiple courses. But the most typical is the mentality of communication and the different characteristics of team members. As described in the game summary above.

 If there are 30 students, the instructor can draw 2 mazes in advance, divide the students into groups of about 15 people, and compete between the 2 groups. The instructor can arbitrarily determine the maze route. This game is available as a game in the Team Event series.
