Let the child sit in the child seat in a down jacket, and the car seat may become a "safety killer"

Child car seats are recommended when travelling in a private car for children under the age of 12 and under 140 cm tall. Recently, as the weather in Shanghai has turned cold, many parents are afraid that their children will catch a cold, and they will directly fix children wearing down jackets and other coats on the car seat.

I thought it was warm and safe, but I didn't know that doing so would bring safety risks to my children. Experts from the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention remind parents that wearing down jackets will greatly affect the fixation of children in child car seats, and when a collision occurs, children can easily fly out of the seat, causing unpredictable injuries.

Why? When the child wears a down jacket and sits in the child car seat, the bumps in the vehicle during the driving process will cause the air in the down jacket to be squeezed continuously, and the down jacket will become thinner and thinner, so that the gap between the five-point or three-point seat belt in the child car seat and the child will increase, resulting in the inability to firmly fix the child. In addition, the surface of the down jacket is mostly made of smooth fabric, resulting in the lack of sufficient friction in the seat belt to fix the child.

It is reported that when a car collides, the correct use of child safety seats can reduce infant mortality by 71% and infant mortality by 54%. The correct "opening method" for using a child car seat in winter is to first take off the child's down jacket, and then fix the child wearing a close-fitting single clothes on the child car seat, check whether it is fixed according to the correct method, and finally cover the down jacket on the child, which is both safe and warm.

In addition to wearing a down jacket, there are some operations that are not advisable with child car seats. When it is cold, some parents are worried that their child is cold in a child safety seat, and they put a blanket or padding on the back or under the child. It is also dangerous practice, and in the event of a vehicle collision, these items are compressed, causing the seat belt to become loose and reducing the protection of the child safety chair. Similarly, it is advisable to cover a blanket or clothing on a child who has been secured in a child safety chair.

When using a child car seat, only objects that have been approved by the child safety seat manufacturer or that are produced by the seat manufacturing company for a specific type of child car seat are acceptable, for example, some seat manufacturers allow the use of rolled towels or blankets at the child's crotch belt for improved comfort.

In addition, no children's toy pendants can be placed on the child car seat. In the event of a vehicle collision, these pendants pose an unpredictable danger to the child and can only be used with the permission and certification of the child car seat manufacturer.
