Karen Wilson: Losing to opponents who perform better is only convincing and not dissatisfied

Karen Wilson beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 6-5 in the quarter-finals of the British Championship, but Luca Bressell's better performance in the semi-finals made Wilson's hopes of winning the "big three" once again falter.

In the semi-finals, Bressell's performance was unassailable, he won the game 6:4 and scored a four-shot breaker, even if Wilson, who had just won O'Sullivan, could only raise his hand and surrender.

Wilson thought he was playing well in the game and was just beaten by someone who performed better.

"The opponent must play well to beat him" became Wilson's measure of winning or losing the game, and Wilson had no dissatisfaction with Bressel's brilliant performance in the semifinals.

Wilson said: "To be honest, it's been a bit of a weird season. Adversely affected by the covid-19 travel restrictions, the Tour can only be held in the UK. ”

"After the World Championships, we had quite a long break. This season has been rested for a long time after the British Open, so I think the progress at the beginning of the season was particularly difficult. ”

"But since the Northern Ireland Open, we've been playing almost non-stop in every event and that's exactly what I want. I think I'm the kind of player who plays better and stronger. ”

"I feel like I've improved my stability and have made it to the quarter-finals a couple of times so far this season. And I happened to lose to the better-performing opponents, and that's what I've been up to so far this season. ”

"Every guy who beat me played at their own high level and I think that's why they were able to beat me, which is nice. As you can see from this year's British Championships, rankings don't mean everything. There are a lot of good players on the Tour right now. ”

"It's great to see two young people from outside the UK (Bressell in Belgium and Zhao Xintong in China) playing very well and their presence has many benefits for the sport."

"I was hoping it was me (to be able to win the title) but sometimes you have to throw in the box and the opponent's performance is worth a win. I played well against Ronnie and well in the semi-finals, so I really expected something [from the championship], but that's snooker, full of variables. ”

Wilson, who just celebrated his 30th birthday just before Christmas, will play in the Champions League on January 5, followed by a first-round match against Stewart Bingham in the first round of the Masters on January 12.
