Lanzhou, December 28 (Reporter Feng Zhijun) On the 28th, the "Empirical - Gansu Archaeological Centennial Exhibition" jointly organized by the Gansu Provincial Museum and the Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology was launched in Lanzhou, which aims to display the major discoveries and research results of different stages of Gansu's archaeological work, and to show the major archaeological discoveries and excellent material cultural heritage of Gansu in the past century.

As one of the earliest areas in China to carry out archaeological work, Gansu has experienced more than 100 years of development. The exhibition includes the fruitful results of Gansu's archaeological work, divided into six units: "The Origin of Mankind", "The Beginning of Civilization", "Zhou Qin Traceability", "Exchange and Mutual Learning", "Pluralism and Integration", and "Protection and Research", with a total of 457 cultural relics (sets) exhibited, of which some typical cultural relics excavated from archaeological projects such as Dunhuang Dry Gorge Jade Mine Site, Zhangye Xichengyi Site, Ningxian Shijia Ruins and Tuguhun Royal Murong Zhi Tomb Group were also "on the same stage".

It is worth mentioning that this exhibition comprehensively shows the fruitful results of Gansu's archaeological work, especially the exhibition will present a large number of the latest excavated cultural relics in recent years, and the latest archaeological achievements such as the Tuguhun Royal Tomb, the Majiayuan Warring States Tomb Group and the Hexi Corridor Jade Mine will be met with the audience.

Chen Guoke, director of the Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said that Gansu, as an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, is a key area for the formation and development of the genealogy of Chinese civilization and Chinese civilization. This is of great significance for further carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, accelerating the pace of cultural construction in Gansu, and enhancing cultural self-confidence.

According to statistics, the archaeological work of Gansu, a province with large cultural relics resources, has always been at the forefront of the country. In the national "Top 100 Archaeological Discoveries in a Hundred Years" selection, Gansu was selected 4 items, tied for 5th in the country; the "Archaeological China" project released by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage not long ago, Gansu was selected for 3 items, ranking first in the country in the "Archaeological China" release project in 2021. So far, 5 archaeological excavation projects in Gansu have been selected as "National Top Ten Archaeological New Discoveries", 3 have been selected as "National Top 6 Archaeological New Discoveries", and 5 have won the "Field Archaeology Award".

"These honors not only highlight Gansu's due status as a major cultural province and a major province of cultural relics, but also comprehensively show Gansu's cultural relics and archaeological resources, which are connected with Chinese civilization and have a unique style at the same time." Chen Guoke believes that displaying gansu's archaeological achievements over the past hundred years will play a positive role in promoting the inheritance of Gansu's history and culture, deepening academic research, strengthening exchanges and mutual learning, doing a good job in cultural relics work, and promoting the integration of culture and tourism.

Chen Guoke said that through the exhibition, reviewing and summarizing the century-old development process of Gansu archaeology will help Gansu archaeologists to better absorb experience and nutrients, continue to explore the unknown, reveal the origin, and do a good job in excavating, sorting, interpreting, displaying and using archaeological results.

Jia Jianwei, director of the Gansu Provincial Museum, said that Gansu is located in the northwest of China's inland, and its special geographical location and topography have created Gansu's splendid culture. Over the past 100 years, a large number of important cultural relics from different periods and different types have been excavated by archaeological excavations, forming a complete chain of evidence, providing rich empirical data for Gansu as an important birthplace of Chinese civilization and the forefront of cultural exchanges and integration between The East and the West.

Jia Jianwei said that the museum's rich collection resources mostly come from archaeological excavations, Dadiwan ruins, Lingtai Baicaopo Western Zhou tombs, Wuwei Leitai Han tombs, Mozuizi Han tombs, Tiantishan Grottoes and other important cultural heritage sites at home and abroad most of the excavated cultural relics are hidden in the museum, it actively uses these collection resources, organized exhibitions of different themes and contents, went to overseas exhibitions outside the province for exhibition display, Gansu cultural relics social influence and cultural and social popularity has been highlighted and enhanced.
