The first person in Wuyi University! Zhang Guoxiong was awarded the title of "Outstanding Social Scientist of Guangdong Province"

Recently, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Social Sciences promulgated the "Decision on Commending the Fourth Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Social Scientists", and 10 well-known experts and scholars were awarded the title of "Outstanding Social Scientists of Guangdong Province", including Professor Zhang Guoxiong of Wuyi University.

As the first person to receive this award from Wuyi University and a local university in the province, Zhang Guoxiong is the founder of the Department of Overseas Chinese Culture and Heritage of Wuyi University, a well-known scholar of overseas Chinese culture and heritage in China, and has made many pioneering academic contributions in the field of Chinese overseas Chinese culture research.

Guangdong is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in China. In academic practice, Zhang Guoxiong proposed that the culture of overseas Chinese is an independent research subject and research field that is equally important as the historical research of overseas Chinese. Therefore, he actively promoted the construction of overseas Chinese cultural disciplines, and the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Cultural Research Center of Wuyi University established under his leadership became the local historical and cultural research base of Guangdong Province in 2006, 2008 and 2014, the key research base of humanities and social sciences of ordinary universities in Guangdong Province, and the collaborative innovation and development center of Guangdong Province.

In 2012, "Overseas Chinese Culture and Heritage" became a key discipline in Guangdong Province, and Overseas Chinese Culture gradually became an independent, emerging and interdisciplinary research field, and the independent status of research subjects was increasingly accepted by the academic community. In 2015, Zhang Guoxiong jointly established the Chinese Overseas Chinese Cultural Research Center at Wuyi University in conjunction with the China Institute of Overseas Chinese and Chinese History, and actively planned to promote the establishment of provincial-level overseas Chinese cultural research centers in Guangxi, Yunnan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hainan, Heilongjiang and other provinces, and built a national academic network for the study of overseas Chinese culture.

Since 1996, Zhang Guoxiong has also conducted fieldwork in Wuyi Qiao Township, studying the modern architecture of Overseas Chinese Villages such as Kaiping Diaolou from the perspective of World Heritage, and becoming the only chief expert in Guangdong Province's application for the "Kaiping Diaolou and Village" world cultural heritage site so far.

The excavation and collation of wuyi overseas Chinese batch (yinxin) is also the field of Zhang Guoxiong's intensive research. He also became the chief expert of the "Overseas Chinese Batch Archives - Overseas Chinese Silver Letter" to declare the Memory of the World Heritage, providing important academic support for the successful inscription of two World Heritage Sites of Overseas Chinese Cultural Connotations in China on the World Heritage List.
