Octavia Spencer will serve as a producer discussing the topic of slavery

Beijing time on April 3 news, Octavia Spencer will serve as the executive producer of the new film "Mumbet", focusing on anti-slavery, Cass has not yet announced.

Directed by Alethea Root (Part Time Fabulous), produced by Kim Waltrip (His and Her Lonely Affair, Escape), and scripted by Stephen Glantz (Prodigy, Death Terminal), based on the nonfiction literary work A Free Woman on God's Earth by Jana Laiz and Ann-Elizabeth Barnes.

Mumbet was the nickname of Elizabeth Freeman, and in 1781, with Freeman's help, the Massachusetts Supreme Court found slavery to contradict what the state Constitution stated that "all men are free and equal," and Freeman later successfully won the freedom lawsuit, being the first African-American to do so.

The film will be filmed in Berkshire, western Massachusetts, with Jenie Atkinson (House of Cards, Criminal Minds), Glantz, and others also co-producing.

Spencer was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the third time this year for The Shape of Water, after being nominated for Supporting Actress for "Help" and "Hidden Figures," and she and Viola Davis are the most black actresses in Otti in history.
