Tigers, April 30 -- The Denver Broncos didn't pick a quarterback until the 42nd pick in this year's draft, and part of their patience is the trust they have in a 34-year-old veteran.
Broncos general manager John Elway said in an interview that quarterback Joe Flack's performance so far has been enough for him to be patient in picking a new quarterback and didn't pick Drew Lock until the middle of the second round.
"We're happy with Joe, which allows us to not rush to pick a quarterback," Elvie said. "What contributed to our decision was that Joe was very accommodating to our plans in the attacking group and he looked great at last week's mini camp. He really showed his passing skills in training last week. ”
"I really feel like we've brought in a player who's on top."
However, Flack's performance in recent seasons does not seem to support such a statement. His quarterback rating has been between 80 and 84 for the past 4 years, and it wasn't until the Baltimore Ravens broke a 3-year playoff drought after he was replaced by Lamar Jackson last season.
Like the Ravens, the Broncos don't have a rich talent for receivers. By the start of the new season we'll see if Flack has made Elvie's assessment a reality.
