Broncos General Manager: Flak and Locke can solve the team's quarterback dilemma

Tiger Punch, July 19 -- After recruiting Peyton Manning, John Elway helped the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl. But after that, Every time Elvie tried to find a qualified quarterback, it failed.

"It's a very difficult position to fill," Elvie told reporters on Wednesday. "We have tried hard for the last 4 years to try all the options that the team has but have not gotten a satisfactory result. So it's difficult. We did a lot of experimentation, we tried a lot of different situations. ... Hopefully with Joe Flacco and Drew Lock as his bench we can consolidate that position. ”

The Broncos started training camp this week, with Flak currently the starting quarterback, with drew Locke, who has just signed a contract, behind him.

Since Manning retired in 2016, Elvie has tried many quarterbacks as starters: Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Brock Osweiler and Case Keenum last season.

Elvie believes Flak's addition and Locke's potential could finally stop the Broncos' precarious situation at quarterback.

"We felt like after Joe joined, after getting him through trades, from the current state of his career, we felt like he was at his peak," Elvie said. "At least we hope so. To have young people like Drew learn from him and be able to consolidate that position for a long time – obviously we've been pursuing that goal since Payton retired. It's always been a difficult position to fill, but we're finally very happy with the position and where we stand. ”

Since Manning retired, we've heard Elvie praise other quarterbacks many times, including playing Kenham last season. The team's record will determine how long his love for Flak lasts and whether Flack can keep Locke on the bench all season. Flack has been mediocre and injured for the past two years, but he showed some great form early last season.

After winning and losing more than two consecutive seasons since the 1970s, Elvie thinks he's finally solved the problem of quarterback positioning. If he does succeed, the Broncos can compete for a playoff spot. If Elvie looks away again, his place with the Broncos could be in jeopardy.
