In June 2015, he obtained the tools to commit the crime through online shopping, left Peking University in July, and killed his mother with dumbbells on July 11, but Wu Xieyu did not commit suicide, he disposed of his mother's body, wrapped it in layers of activated charcoal, and also installed cameras at the scene of the crime, through remote monitoring, to view the scene of the crime.
After his mother's death, he also began a three-year absconding career in the name of studying abroad by defrauding 1.44 million relatives and friends.

On December 24, 2020, the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court held a first-instance trial.

There is a big difference between "assisting a mother to commit suicide" and "helping a mother out of her own life" from the point of view of intentional homicide.
According to Article 232 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, the crime of intentional homicide must subjectively have the intention to illegally deprive others of their lives, but "assisting in killing" has a different subjective will.
The law stipulates that the perpetrator of intentional homicide shall be sentenced to death, life imprisonment or fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years;
That is to say, if "assisted killing" is adopted, there is a great possibility of light sentences.
Article 266 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates that if the amount of public or private property is defrauded of a relatively large amount, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years; if the amount is huge or there are other serious circumstances, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than ten years; if the amount is particularly huge, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years or life imprisonment.
The court did not adopt the "assistance" argument, believing that he was pessimistic and world-weary, had suicidal thoughts, and believed that his mother had lost the meaning of life, so his intention to kill people, Wu Xieyu was committing intentional homicide, after a long period of planning and planning, subjective will, cruel means, contrary to family morality, although he truthfully confessed the facts of the crime after the case, it was not enough to give a light sentence, and several crimes were punished together, and the death penalty was imposed.
However, for the death sentence, his relatives expressed dissatisfaction, before the verdict was pronounced, the family has issued a letter of understanding, they believe that Wu Xieyu can not be treated correctly, only to cause tragedy, which is right and wrong, it is not up to them to decide, the law must be fair and strict.
