The protagonist of the story is Colonel Andrew Summers Rowan, a young Lieutenant in the Army when the Spanish War broke out in 1898. When U.S. President McKinley asked a suitable person to deliver the letter, that person needed to travel alone from Washington, D.C., to Cuba, and then give the letter to the revolutionary leader, General Garcia. Rowan was in danger, did not ask a word, immediately began to act, he trekked through the mountains and rivers, overcame all kinds of difficulties to complete the task.
