Simplifying the certification of foreign citizenship is expected to be extended to all universities in Portugal "Simplex+" to study first

The Portuguese government wants to make the policy of simplifying the certification of foreign citizenship benefit all Portuguese universities. According to Lusha, Aveiro University, in cooperation with the Aliens and Border Services Agency (SEF), has developed a program to simplify the residency certification of foreign student status, aimed at facilitating foreign citizens from all non-Schengen countries to study in Portugal, and the government intends to extend this Simplex+ simplification policy to other institutions of higher learning across the country.

The Portuguese Minister of the Interior, Résidence Pereira, announced the news at the Simplex Program briefing in Aveiro, where foreign students interested in studying at the University of Aveiro in Portugal can apply for visas much more easily.

The main purpose of the Simplex 063 program is to simplify the cumbersome procedures for foreign citizens to obtain higher education qualifications, so that these students from non-Schengen countries are exempted from reporting to the Aliens and Border Services Agency (SEF) to prove their legal status, and do not have to require international students to apply for a short-term residence card in Portugal within a certain period of time.

"The system can provide valid identification for foreign students who wish to enroll in Portuguese higher education institutions or who wish to attend Portuguese higher education." Pereira also said that the beneficiaries of this are mainly related international students, especially the increasing number of students from Brazil and China, to facilitate their overseas life.

Pereira stressed that the government's support for the move was motivated by "the establishment of mechanisms for security and freedom." The system developed by aveiro University allows real-time online access to the SEF database via an encrypted channel. SEF Director-General Manuel Jamela Palos said that over the next four years, about 24,000 foreign students will be exempted from the formalities that can only be done through the Diplomatic Service.

Palos said the measure represents "the openness of civil society, further implementing a sense of modernization and dematerialization without compromising efficiency and safety."

Manuel Assensan, president of Aveiro University, said that there are currently 848 students from 68 different countries enrolled in Aveiro University. The reliability of the system and the advantages it will bring to SEF and students can be expected in the future. (Mao Kawasaki)
