From Nov. 27 to Dec. 13, he scored in double figures in nine consecutive games, two of which exceeded 20, while helping Houston to a 7-2 record.

According to Rockets reporter Jonathan Fagan, the team and Matthews reached a four-year, $8.2 million contract, with salaries of $2 million for the first three seasons, $2.2 million for the fourth season, and non-guaranteed contracts for the last three seasons.

After signing Matthews, the Rockets signed a two-way contract with development league guard Quinn. Quinn, a graduate of New Mexico State University, played four games for the Lakers in this year's preseason, but ultimately failed to stay on. Quinn then joined the G-League Vipers, averaging 22.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.6 three-pointers per game. With his outstanding performance, Quinn eventually got a two-way contract with the Rockets.
