Li Chuanqin, the son of the late villager Li Xuewei, still keeps a remittance slip with the inscription "Labor Compensation (Li Xuewei)".
What happened that made the Japanese have to compensate these Chinese laborers years later? This is related to an insurrection that took place in Japan during World War II.

Someone sought out Mr. Li Jiesheng, a Chinese worker who was a member of the "Huagang Rebellion." He was forcibly recruited by the Japanese invaders on July 28, 1944, and came to Japan by boat from Qingdao. Li Xuewei, on the other hand, was imprisoned by the Japanese army for "illegal" behavior when he went out to the market on March 26, 1945, and then on April 18, he boarded the "Hengyang Maru" freighter with 600 other forced laborers on the Bund of Qingdao and went to a foreign country in a cry.
After nearly half a month of bumps, the "Hengyang Maru" was moored at the Shimonoseki Pier. The laborers were then forced by the Japanese gendarmes with bayonets to board a stuffy tanker and headed northeast towards Hanaoka Town in Akita Prefecture. Upon arriving in Hanaoka-cho, Li Xuewei was immediately incorporated into the Nakayama-Liao Civil Engineering Department of Kashima Co., Ltd., a Mine in Hanaoka, Japan.

The Japanese divided them into brigades, squadrons, squads, and squads, and at the same time had corresponding duties. In addition, there are 7 or 8 Japanese overseers who are like vicious dogs, supervising the laborers at all times, punching and kicking whenever something goes wrong.
At this time, Japan, under the bombardment of the Allied forces, was exhausted and extremely scarce in materials. When Li Xuewei and his party arrived in Huagang, they coincided with the so-called "breakthrough period" (that is, endless labor).

The laborers were sick and left untreated, the dead were left unattended, and the number of victims was on the rise. In mid-June 1945, a captured Soldier of the Eighth Route Army named Xue Tongdao, because he could not bear hunger, quietly ran to the nearby home of the Korean expatriates to ask for food, and was discovered by Japanese overseers.
The cruel Japanese first beat him with wooden sticks and leather whips, and then burned his hands and feet with a red-hot soldering iron.

In this way, the young people of many years were tortured to death.
Unable to bear the atrocities of the Japanese Kou, Geng Zhen, then the captain of the brigade, secretly gathered 13 backbone members of the squadron leader to jointly explore the feasibility of launching a riot. After some discussion, it was unanimously decided:
Kill the Japanese overseers, sacrifice the shame of their compatriots; kill out of hell, find a way to return to the motherland, if you can't go back, you will go out and fight with the enemy!
At 10 p.m. on June 30, the riots began as scheduled. Except for more than a hundred sick laborers, the rest of the laborers, armed with shovels and wooden sticks, under the leadership of the squadron leader, cut off the power supply, smashed the electric lights, hit the residence, and when they saw the Japanese, they smashed their heads and faces. Within an hour, four Japanese overseers, Himori Masaharu, Nagasaki Tatsuzo, Kiyoshi Inomoto, and Kobayashi, were all killed by the laborers. The other 2 overseers took advantage of the lack of strict guarding on the periphery and took the opportunity to escape.
After killing the Japanese, the second step was immediately initiated: retreat.
Because it was nighttime and poor preparations, the riot team had to march along the rugged mountain road to Lion Forest Mountain. After a long time of turning overnight, I could not find a way out. At dawn, the laborers could only occupy two hills. In order to maintain order, the Japanese army gathered a large number of military police and gendarmes. The laborers without guns kept throwing stones down the hill to stop the enemy from advancing. However, in the face of the enemy who had the advantage and loaded with live ammunition, the riot team was eventually outnumbered and was captured by the Japanese and taken down the mountain.

[Geng Zhen, a young man who joined the army (1915-2012).] It was he who led nearly a thousand laborers to launch the "Hanaoka Rebellion".
After more than 700 laborers were captured, the Japanese military police tied them up with straw ropes and escorted them to the Hanaokacho Theater. After arriving at the square, let them line up and kneel facing north, kneeling for three days and three nights. During this period, no food or water was provided to anyone, and even soldiers were sent to guard the area with guns. Many sick and wounded laborers died tragically during this period, and no one collected their bodies.
