During the reign of Ming Chengzu Yongle, the Three Treasure Eunuch Zheng He discovered that the Natuna Islands could be used as a stopover for the fleet to transit through the sea during the Voyage, so he stationed troops here and began to build barracks and warehouses and other infrastructure, and then named it "Shitang Island". From this time on, the Natuna Islands began to be incorporated into the territory of the Ming Dynasty and became an inseparable territory of China. The Natuna Islands are located in the middle of Indonesia and Malaysia, and it is very close to China's Spratly Islands. Moreover, the name of this island is also named in modern times, and during the Ming Dynasty, chinese people also called it Tianya Island.
In 1644, Li Zicheng, the King of Chuang, attacked Beijing, the Chongzhen Emperor Zhu Youjian hanged himself at Coal Mountain, the Qing army settled in the Central Plains, and the Ming Dynasty clan and former ministers fled to the south. In 1645, the Tang king Zhu Yujian proclaimed himself emperor in Fuzhou with the support of Zheng Zhilong and others, and changed his name to Yuan Longwu, but he did not expect Zheng Zhilong to surrender to Qing, and Zhu Yujian was captured by the Qing army and committed suicide by hunger strike. Later, Longwu's former vassals also supported Zhu Yujian's younger brother Zhu Yujian as emperor in Guangzhou, changing his name to Yuan Shaowu. However, after Zhu Yulei succeeded to the throne, he did not put the anti-Qing in the first place, but seized power internally and met with the Yongli regime. Soon, the Shaowu regime was attacked by the Qing army, and the Shaowu regime hanged itself. In April 1662, the Yongli Emperor Zhu Youluo was killed by Wu Sangui, and the Southern Ming Dynasty was overthrown.
After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, 300 remnants of the soldiers did not want to submit to the rule of the Manchu Qing, so they fled to the Natuna Islands, but among the 300 remnants there was a Teochew man named Zhang Jiexu, a very leadership person, who led the 300 remnants to drive away the original inhabitants of the Natuna Islands, and then tried to survive on the island.
Later, Indonesia explored a large amount of oil and gas in the waters of the Natuna Islands, and it is reported that the East Natuna Basin has the world's largest oil and gas field, with natural gas reserves of 1.3 billion cubic meters, and Indonesia is more determined to control the island. As a result, the Indonesian mainland began to send residents to the Natuna Islands, bringing the number of Indonesians on the island to nearly 90,000, while the Chinese were completely out of the ascendancy. It is a pity that the Nathuna Islands are rich in resources and have a prominent strategic position, but they no longer belong to China.
