DC has the highest average number of museums per square mile in the country — most of which are free to visit.
Things like the Smithsonian Museum, the National Museum of American History, and the Air and Space Museum are all worth a visit. The International Spy Museum is interesting, where you can crack passwords, identify spies in disguise, and even become the subject of secret surveillance.
If you are traveling with children, the National Children's Museum will be a good choice. There are SpongeBob SquarePants' "Lights, Cameras, Marine Exhibits", as well as "Virtual Slime" in SlimeLand full of senses and a large number of interactive exhibitions exploring science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

(4) Atlanta: The City of Immersive Experiences
The Georgia Aquarium is home to a large collection of marine life, including rare albino crocodiles and California sea lions. But the best place is the sharks - you can dive or snorkel in the tank with the whale sharks.
