Taiyuan, December 16 (Reporter Hu Jian) Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute released new archaeological discoveries on the 16th, local archaeologists found Neolithic ruins more than 5,000 years ago in the city and village of Baiban Township, Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan City, and unearthed a large number of stone tools, animal bones, pottery pieces, etc., which has important academic value for discussing prehistoric cultural exchanges in Taiyuan and surrounding areas.

Located 900 meters southwest of The chengcun village of Baiban Township, Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, the site excavated a total of 98 ash pits, 11 kilns, 2 housing sites and 6 Ming and Qing tombs in the Yangshao period, and unearthed a large number of pottery pieces, as well as stone tools, bone tools, animal bones, etc.

Among them, the pottery pieces are mainly clay red pottery and sand gray pottery, and the patterns are mainly dots, straight lines, arc edge triangles, grid patterns, and engraving patterns. At present, the restored utensils include faience pots, red pottery noodle bowls, gray pottery bowls, gray clay pots, white pottery seats, etc. Stone tools include single-hole stone knives, stone axes and so on. Animal bones mainly include dogs, pigs, deer and so on.

Archaeologists found a burial ash pit with two bones at the bottom, one for an adult male, about 28 years old, and one for a juvenile female, about 2 years old, placed sideways on the legs of an adult male, with slightly flexed lower limbs. The two human bones are slightly "ten" shaped. There are a small number of sand ash pottery pieces, small pieces of pig bones, and stones around the human bones.

A circular stove pit was found in the south of the pentagonal site, with a diameter of about 1 meter and a depth of 0.5 meters, and the artifacts excavated from the site mainly include faience pots, red pottery bowls, gray pottery bowls, gray clay pots, white pottery seats, pottery rings, pottery spinning wheels, stone knives, stone axes and so on.

Archaeologists initially believe that the site is mainly a remnant of the middle and late Yangshao, which has important academic value for studying the neolithic cultural features of the Taiyuan Basin, constructing the prehistoric cultural sequence of the region, and discussing the prehistoric cultural exchanges in Taiyuan and surrounding areas. The combined judgment that the region is only part of this prehistoric settlement and is not the centre, and more information on the settlement will be done at a later stage. (End)
