At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Ten Permanent Attendants ran rampant in the government and the opposition, the central government was politically corrupt, the problem of local land annexation was getting worse and worse, and coupled with the double blow of natural disasters and plagues, the people suffered a lot, so they rebelled one after another and launched large-scale rebellions, the most famous of which was the Yellow Turban Rebellion.
In these uprisings at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, it can be seen that religion has a deep influence in it, and many gods and sticks appear at this time, such as Nanhua Laoxian, Zhang Jiao, Zuo Ci, Yu Ji, Zhang Lu and so on. Among so many divine sticks, Zhang Luke said to be the most successful, because except for him, no one else had established a long-term and continuous organization, Zhang Jiao and Yu Ji were like this, and Zuo Ci was almost killed by Liu Biao, and there was no inheritance.
Returning to Zhang Lu's Wudoumi Sect, this sect began with Zhang Lu's grandfather Zhang Daoling, who after Zhang Daoling's death, passed on his son Zhang Heng, and after Heng's death, passed on his son Zhang Lu. The origin of the name of Zhang Lu Wudou Mi Sect is said to be because all those who enter the Tao must produce five buckets of rice, so they got this name, so they are also called Mi Wu, Mi Thief, and Mi Dao. Zhang Lu refers to the organization of the Yellow Turban Dao in Zhangjiao, the first entrants to the Wudou Rice Dao are called ghost pawns, the backbone is called sacrificial wine, and the "zhi" is used as a missionary unit, and the leaders are all the people, and many are the chief priests.
Moreover, Zhang Lu, who used religion as the call to establish this regime, can be said to be a piece of paradise at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Lu set up righteous houses in various places, placed righteous rice and righteous meat, and provided free food and accommodation for passers-by, and was afraid that people would eat more, and specially added to the canon rules that if people ate too much, ghosts could make them sick. If someone is sick, Zhang Lu leads the patient into the ashram, makes him think about it, and then asks the patient to write his name, in triplicate, called the Three Officials Handwriting, one of which goes up the mountain, on the mountain, one of which is buried, and one of which is sinking water.
Offenders also have three chances of being forgiven, and only those who commit repeat offenses are punished, while those who are less transgressive are put in charge of building a hundred steps of roads. It also issued an order prohibiting winemaking and prohibiting the killing of livestock in spring and summer, which is known in history as the people's happiness.
Looking at Zhang Lu's deeds, it can be said that it is far beyond the advanced concepts of the times and the establishment of a cosmopolitan society in the chaotic world. Although the Zhang Lu family was the upper echelon of the rule, they did not have the luxury of corruption, but tried their best to take care of the people and the people at the lower level. Do not discipline the people with severe punishment, teach good faith, preach no fraud, and replace punishment with the self-surrender of the sick. It is clear that there is a focus on moral persuasion and more on the use of legal punishment.
After Zhang Lu surrendered to Cao Cao, the Wudou Rice Sect did not dissipate into history, although there were still uprisings like Sun En and Lu Xun under the name of the Wudou Rice Sect; but by the time of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Wudou Rice Sect was renamed Tianshi Dao, which was officially recognized, with Jiangxi Longhu Mountain as the center. At this point, Zhang Tianshi became the ancestor and authentic ancestor of Taoism, the same as Confucius in Qufu, Shandong, and the two thousand-year-old families in China.
