CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen signed a cooperation agreement to promote the development of higher education in the Greater Bay Area

Hong Kong, December 15 (China News Service) -- The University of Chinese in Hong Kong and the University of Chinese in Hong Kong (Shenzhen) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on the 15th, through which the two universities will further complement each other's advantages in various fields and promote the development of higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to reports, the work of in-depth cooperation between the two universities under the agreement includes: the establishment of a special committee for strategic cooperation, the establishment of a normalized cooperation mechanism, the promotion of complementarity and win-win results in the field of teaching and scientific research between the two universities, and the two sides jointly build a brand of first-class universities in the mainland and the world; form a world-class international teaching team, introduce and cultivate international talents, and implement international models and standards in education and teaching, postgraduate training, scientific research construction and medical services.

In addition, the two universities will build a collaborative innovation platform in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, carry out in-depth cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, big data, biomedicine, new energy, new materials, financial technology and other fields, and unite with innovative technology enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to accelerate the preparation of key research areas and cutting-edge scientific research key laboratories and industrial innovation bases of the two universities; bring Hong Kong's advanced experience in international medical education and medical services to the mainland, and promote the development of innovative medical research and medical and health industries in the Greater Bay Area To carry out research on the innovation of the management system and global affairs in the Greater Bay Area, including administrative management, legal regulations, international affairs and other fields.

Duan Chongzhi, President of CUHK, said that the signing of the strategic framework agreement between the two universities will further promote the complementary advantages of the two campuses in various fields, create a common platform for coordinated development, and provide guidance for positioning in the next five years. The outline of the national "14th Five-Year Plan" and the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" outline the prospects for scientific and technological innovation work and integrated development in the region, and the two universities must enhance their strength, jointly invest in the spatial layout of scientific and technological innovation, and cultivate innovative talents.

Officially approved by the Ministry of Education in 2014, CUHK-Shenzhen currently has nearly 500 scholars and researchers, more than 8,000 students, 7 faculties, 4 colleges, 22 undergraduate majors and 25 postgraduate programmes.

Xu Yangsheng, President of CUHK-Shenzhen, said that the two universities will work together to explore a new model for the integration of higher education and innovation and technology in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
