On February 12, 1912, Empress Longyu issued an abdication order for Puyi, which meant the end of China's more than two thousand years of absolute monarchy. Puyi, who is only 6 years old, still enjoys royal service. The government of the Republic of China gave him 4 million yuan a year for the Qing royal family, equivalent to a year's tax revenue of a province at that time. In 1924, Feng Yuxiang staged a coup d'état in Beijing, and the late emperor Puyi was expelled from the Forbidden City in November. As a result, the "cost of living" of 4 million yuan was reduced to 400,000 yuan. Puyi could not afford to pay the wages of female slaves, and had to repatriate a large number of female slaves. Successive generations of palace women entered the palace when they were young and stayed behind for life. Now they have been deported home. They thought they could find a good family to marry. But they never expected that people would rarely marry a palace maid. Why?
One: arrogance
The palace maids served the relatives of state administrators. They feel that they are celebrities in their hearts, and naturally look down on ordinary people. In the palace, you can often see some treasures of the empress or emperor, and your own knowledge will also improve, so it is difficult for what you see at home to attract them. To put it bluntly, the sense of superiority is at work, the palace women look down on people, and the extended family certainly looks down on them.

Women's job is to serve their masters and sons, which makes them more observant and proactive. This advantage, if put today, can not only harvest human feelings, but also get money. But at that time, people only wanted to earn money to support their families and eat miscellaneous grains. So you either plough the land, or cook and take care of your children, or you have a hard time marrying out because ordinary people marry wives to make a living.
Three: Old age declines
Ancient women could marry at the age of fifteen or sixteen, and most of the palace women dismissed by Puyi were thirty or forty years old. According to the average life expectancy of about 50 years at the time, these women were grandmothers. Young people will certainly not marry the yellow-faced woman to come home. Although old bachelors don't care about age, they are not looked down upon by palace women, so their old lives are mostly lonely.
Fourth, ideological feudalism
After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the people's minds were liberated, and they began to cut their braids, support the republic, and live a new life. After the maid entered the palace, early feudal ideas corroded her life and thoughts. When she left the palace, she was faced with an unfamiliar social environment.
