Songya Lake, formerly known as Yangmei Lake, was historically a low-lying wetland in the old riverbed of the Laodao River, a first-class tributary of the Xiang River. In 1973, under the guidance of the idea of taking grain as the guideline, the Area around Dongting Lake set off a wave of "competing with water for land and asking for grain from the lake", and Yangmei Lake was transformed into a unity embankment at that time by the Changsha people who dared to be the first.
In 2008, in accordance with the national policy of "returning farmland to forests and returning farmland to lakes", Changsha County launched the construction of the United Embankment And Reclamation Lake, and at the end of 2010, after comprehensive water storage, it formed Songya Lake, which is now nearly 4,000 acres of smoke and waves. In the following years, the laurels of the national wetland park and the beautiful lakes of the Yangtze River Economic Belt were all included in Songya Lake.
The park is rich in biodiversity, there are 216 species of plants and 117 species of vertebrates in Songyahu National Wetland Park, including 2 species of national first-level key protected plants, 5 species of national second-level key protected plants, and 7 species of national second-level key protected wild animals, which is like an ecological garden.
At the same time, Songya Lake is a typical shallow lake wetland ecosystem formed after the implementation of the project of returning fields to lakes in southern China, with complex ecological landscapes such as lakes, herbs and forest swamps, artificial islands and lakeshore ecological belts, which is a typical representative of the implementation results of the project of returning fields to lakes and the restoration and reconstruction of shallow lakes and wetlands.
