On December 10, local time, the first echelon of China's 12th peacekeeping medical detachment to South Sudan (Wau) successfully flew to the Wau mission area after completing 14 days of medical isolation in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, and carried out a rotational handover with the 11th peacekeeping medical detachment, and the work handover was completed on the afternoon of the 11th, which also marked the official start of the one-year peacekeeping mission of the 12th batch of China's peacekeeping medical detachment to South Sudan (Wau).
In addition to handing over more than ten contents such as command authority, medical supplies, vehicles and equipment, and barracks and camp tools, the two groups of peacekeeping medical detachments also conducted in-depth exchanges on the surrounding environment of the camp, experience in epidemic prevention and control, and precautions for carrying out tasks in light of the situation in the mission area. After the handover is completed, the 12th peacekeeping medical detachment will continue to work in the Wau mission area in the form of a Chinese peacekeeping secondary hospital, mainly responsible for the medical support tasks of United Nations officials and peacekeeping forces; assistance in humanitarian relief; and emergency medical rescue tasks for health emergencies.
It is understood that the 11th peacekeeping medical detachment has treated more than 1,700 wounded and sick during the one-year mission period; more than 30 hospitalized; more than 100 malaria patients; and 20 medium-sized surgeries, successfully completing the peacekeeping medical task.
