Helmut Dorner
Born in 1952
He studied at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts in the 1970s and his work was exhibited at Documenta Kassel in 1997. Since 1989 he has been a professor of painting at the Karlsruhe Academy of Art. His works are collected by prestigious museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Musée Nauticale, ZKM Karlsruhe, the Winterthur Museum in Switzerland, the Arco Fundacion in Madrid, the Sofia Museum in Reina Madrid and the National Gallery in Stuttgart.
In Helmut Dorner's paintings, space and light form a dynamically supported substance that shapes their respective bodies. Thus, Helmut Dorner's paintings can be seen as reference points that visually enclose and embed the shape of the real and spiritual environment. Although he refracts and captures the light that shines on the picture, the outline of the colored substance is at the forefront of the painting. The translucent quality of the picture medium casts a dripping shadow on the wall behind the subject, making it appear in the multidimensional view. Here, painting is not only captured as material, but above all as matter, acquiring the characteristics of the object through the artist's intentional process of movement.
