Hubei and African countries have expanded scientific and technological cooperation in many fields

Wuhan, December 12 (China News Service) -- At the 2021 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Conference held in Wuhan on the 12th, 15 international scientific and technological cooperation projects were signed to promote the convergence and integration of international innovation resources in Africa and Hubei through various forms of cooperation such as platform co-construction, technology research and development, achievement transformation, and talent training.

Hubei's scientific and technological cooperation with Africa has a lot of roots. In 1963, Hubei sent China's first non-medical team to Algeria, kicking off scientific research cooperation in the field of health and health with African countries. The scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides has now expanded to modern agriculture, education, resources and environment, optoelectronic information and other fields.

In recent years, Hubei has combined its scientific and educational advantages and existing work foundation to carry out close cooperation with African countries.

Agriculture and education are the traditional advantages of Hubei's cooperation with Africa. Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Technology, Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other universities and research institutes have carried out research and demonstration of international cooperation projects with South Africa, Mozambique and other countries in the fields of water resource utilization, recycling material innovation, crop resource protection and other fields, creating better economic and social benefits. As one of the provinces with the highest concentration of African students in China, as of now, there are more than 3,000 students studying in Africa.

In 2013, relying on the construction of the Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China-Africa Joint Research Center was officially established, becoming the first scientific research and talent training institution built by China overseas. Many of the hundreds of E-commerce companies that have invested in Africa have become well-known brand enterprises in Africa. For example, Renfu Pharmaceutical has invested in the construction of modern pharmaceutical factories in Mali and Ethiopia, which has promoted the development of cooperation in the field of medicine and health between China and Africa.

In order to serve China-Africa scientific and technological innovation cooperation, production capacity upgrading investment, and youth talent exchange, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China approved Hubei to take the lead in building a China-Africa innovation cooperation center in May 2020. The Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province organized relevant expert demonstrations in the field of international scientific and technological cooperation, and studied and determined the first batch of layout and construction of 5 hubei provincial international science and technology cooperation (international technology transfer) offshore centers in African countries, as sub-centers of China-Africa innovation cooperation centers.

Zhang Yansheng, chief researcher of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, said that as a major province of science and education, by promoting the coordinated development of The China-Africa Innovation Chain, capital chain, industrial chain and talent chain, Hubei will become a source of china-Africa scientific and technological innovation cooperation.

Wang Wei, director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, said that Hubei is implementing the "Science and Technology Opening Up Action" to support the deep participation of foreign talents, including African talents, in Hubei's scientific and technological innovation, and will focus on key areas such as health and health, agricultural development, energy development, environmental protection and information science, expand talent exchanges, technology transfer, and scientific and technological training for Africa, and provide effective support for the transformation and upgrading of China-Africa industries.
