Former England international on World Cup vs. Old Horse: Maradona can do whatever he faces

In an exclusive interview with The Secret Footballer, former England international Terry Fenwick talked about his experience against Maradona in the 1986 World Cup, saying that Argentina had the best players in the world at that time, no matter who he faced, Maradona could do everything in the game.

Fenwick said in the interview: "Before the Azteca game at the '86 World Cup in Mexico, Bobby Robson said to me in the dressing room: 'Terry, don't worry, he only has one foot. I looked at Bobby and he laughed, that's who he was, he made everyone relax and everyone felt confident and optimistic before the game. 'God's Hand' is obviously handball and today I still believe that England's 11 men on the pitch are better than Argentina, but they have the best players in the world. ”

"I don't think Maradona needs coaching, he can do everything in the game no matter who he's facing, I'm sure the other 10 players are just told 'as soon as you get the ball, give it to Diego and let him show his talent'. He's incredible, he's an amazing player! I tried to stop him, but oh my God, he was as indestructible as a stone. I kicked him down once in the second half, he was treated for four and a half minutes off the pitch, and to my surprise I saw him warming up on the sidelines ready to come back, and I was thinking: 'Oh my God, am I going to do something to stop this kind of guy?' ’”

"The first thing he did when he came on was talk to me and say that he had played for different teams around the world, including Barcelona and Napoli, and he had definitely been hurt, but he was definitely a possession genius. The ball was like gluing to his left foot, and he was also as strong as an ox. What a person of personality, he was born out of a tough environment of growing up, where you have to endure setbacks and move on and live. Diego Maradona, what a great player! ”
