Murphy: Most fans are against Benitez, and it's only a matter of time before he leaves Everton

Premier League commentator Danny Murphy talked about Benitez's situation in Everton in a Daily Mail column, arguing that it would be difficult for Benitez to turn things around at Everton and that it was only a matter of time before he left.

Here are the main points of Murphy's view:

Benitez replaced Carlo Ancelotti as Everton's manager in July and his appointment was not popular due to his previous ties to Liverpool. Everton have been in very bad shape in recent weeks, which has led to the departure of the club's director of football Marcel Brands and Benitez staying with the club for the time being.

Arguably, Benitez has won the fight with Marcel Brandz for control of Everton, but I don't think he's going to end up winning this battle to turn things around the club, most of the fans in the squad right now don't support him and the only way he can change is to get the team into the top 6 or win the trophy, and the current squad is not good enough, it's an impossible task. Similar to Steve Bruce's previous situation in Newcastle, the question is simply when to leave.

At first, I supported Benitez's appointment and I thought he had the ability to bolster Everton's defence. I also misjudge that he would get financial support to improve his squad. But because of FFP (Fair Finance Act), that's obviously not the case, and I also underestimated the feelings the fans have for him, and whenever the result goes wrong, he gets blamed, and despite winning the last round against Arsenal, the relationship between the fans and Rafa is still bad. They support their own team, not the manager.

I really feel a little sorry for Rafa. He has to get ahead of himself to be accepted, and that's not going to happen in the current squad, even if stars like LeWin come back from injury.

Benitez was my manager at Liverpool and even though I left Anfield at the time, I didn't mind judging him, he was a clear-headed coach but sometimes he would anger some of the players. At Everton he had an argument with Dinier, at Liverpool, and when I knew that when he sold Xavi Alonso, the other Liverpool players couldn't believe it. At Real Madrid, he had problems with Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo. For a manager, there needs to be a balance where you can do things your way, but at the same time you need to have the players championing you.

At the moment, Everton need to make changes in several areas, the most important in terms of games, but now they lack balance, lack quality, especially compared to other clubs of similar size. Boss Mosili gave Benitez the confidence to do things his way in the short term, but he couldn't turn water into wine. Without investment, it would be impossible to close the gap with the top six.

I don't think he's going to succeed at Everton and I know how frustrated and upset Everton fans are right now that Benitez can't change their mindset.
