Fujian's new answer sheet for development: from a large foreign trade province to a strong foreign trade province

In the face of complex domestic and foreign challenges such as trade frictions, the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and shrinking international market demand, Fujian's foreign trade has continued to grow rapidly this year. The Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce told the China News Agency reporter on the 7th that Fujian's exports this year are expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan (RMB, the same below), entering the ranks of strong foreign trade provinces.

Fujian was an important starting point of the ancient Silk Road and had a tradition of opening up to the outside world. Over the past 40 years of China's reform and opening up, Fujian has gradually developed from a province dominated by agriculture and a relatively backward economy to a province led by emerging industries and an export-oriented economy. Official statistics show that of the province's total economic output of 4.39 trillion yuan last year, foreign trade imports and exports exceeded 1.4 trillion yuan.

According to Fuzhou Customs, in the first 10 months of this year, the total value of Fujian's foreign trade imports and exports was 1,519.32 billion yuan, an increase of 33% year-on-year, and the total value of foreign trade imports and exports has exceeded that of the whole year of 2020. Among them, the growth rate of import and export, export and import is 10.8, 7.1 and 16.1 percentage points higher than that of the whole country, respectively, and the growth rate of imports ranks first in the major provinces and cities along the eastern coast, and the growth rate of import and export and export ranks second.

The new market of nuggets has become a prominent feature of Fujian's foreign trade. In recent years, online African market promotion meetings, Fujian and Cambodia economic and trade cooperation network promotion meetings, Fujian and Russia economic and trade cooperation network promotion meetings have been held, to promote Fujian enterprises to stabilize traditional markets such as ASEAN, the United States, Europe and Japan, and vigorously expand emerging markets such as South America, Oceania and Africa.

Today, in the pattern of Fujian's foreign trade market, the proportion of emerging markets has increased from 17.0% in 2018 to 20.8% in 2020, and the proportion of countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" has increased from 31.7% in 2018 to 34.7% in 2020.

The relevant person in charge of Fujian Zhongwu E-commerce Company believes that in the face of the downturn in the European and American markets, Fujian enterprises should accelerate the layout of emerging markets such as Africa, deepen diversified trade, and cultivate new growth points for economy and trade.

As a new format and new model of foreign trade, cross-border e-commerce has become a new driving force for Fujian to promote the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade. Fujian is accelerating the construction of pilot cities in six national-level cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones such as Fuzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou, actively laying out overseas warehouses, and has built more than 100 overseas warehouses in more than 20 countries and regions, with a total area of more than 1 million square meters. Fujian has jumped to one of the three major online goods manufacturing bases in China, with cross-border e-commerce sales of 24.9 billion yuan last year, an increase of 22 times year-on-year.

Under the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, export enterprises generally reflect that they are facing many problems such as refunds, delivery difficulties, and difficulties in receiving orders, and have fallen into the dilemma of "unable to pick up orders" and "dare not pick up orders". Fujian has implemented precise policies, formulated and implemented a series of policies and measures, continued to stabilize and smooth the supply chain of the foreign trade industry chain, stabilized the "basic disk" of foreign trade, and achieved positive growth in imports and exports for 18 months since June 2020.
