The 41 passengers who were travelling on the same plane as the man, as close contacts, also underwent nucleic acid tests and required health observation.
According to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the man flew from Rome to Tokyo via Frankfurt and was confirmed positive after receiving a nucleic acid test at the airport quarantine station. Genetic analysis by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan determined that it was infected with the Omikejung variant strain.
It is reported that because he was an asymptomatic infected person, the man was temporarily arranged to rest in the accommodation facility after entering the country, and then transferred to a medical institution. According to himself, he was vaccinated twice against the Modena COVID-19 vaccine in July and August of this year.
In addition, 1 of the 41 people who were close contacts were confirmed positive at the time of entry testing, but after genetic analysis, it was learned that it was not the Omi kerong variant that was infected.
