When we look for a house, we tend to limit ourselves to areas we are familiar with. However, whether this is the most appropriate, is actually not known.
Masuda and his wife were converted from a second-hand apartment in Higashi-Nakano and originally lived in a different area. If you can work in Tokyo, you don't have a particularly desired area, so the houses introduced are a combination of "suburban × building area× spacious building area", "downtown × old × compact".
In this way, after looking at a few houses, I decided to choose a house that could be rented out when the job was transferred, and finally locked in a house near the more mobile downtown station. If it is a replacement, there is no problem in Tokyo, but if it is a lease, the location is very important.
So I bought a 38-year-old second-hand apartment not far from Higashi Nakano Station. Unexpectedly, the greenery along the Kanda River in this area is beautiful and quiet, but it is close to the city center. Now completely "living in the city" and fully enjoying life in the city center.
The requirement for renovation was "simplicity". However, after listening carefully, I felt that it was not so much simplicity that they wanted "open" rooms with light and ventilation. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to create a room that is both small and open.
The most impactful thing should be the glass bathroom that comes into view as soon as you enter the door. I don't usually do this, but this time I made up my mind to use glass to make the room look spacious. Because there are vertical shutters, of course you can blindfold your eyes when using them.
Although the bed is placed in the single room, the bed space is enclosed by vertical shutters like the bathroom, so it is like a bedroom when sleeping. Because of the light and air, even if there is only the space of the bed, there will be no sense of occlusion.
Benches are set up from the walls of the bathroom to the bedroom, making the hallway a place to stay. It's like a cornice. Because the walls of the living room are cement, it was decided to keep it as is at the site.
Concrete walls, solid wood floors, bright rooms with white accents.... The "minimalist" they like is the style that is easy to rent. While looking forward to the future, we pursue our own comfortable life now. This is a clever modification that only two young people have.
