The artist made the world's most expensive Christmas pullover for £30,000

In order to raise funds for the NHS, 33-year-old artist Aidan Liban used his life savings to create the world's most expensive Christmas pullover, according to the British "Metropolis Daily" reported on December 5. The dress features diamonds, 24 carats of gold thread and thousands of Swarovski crystals, lined with Italian silk, which cost £7,000 and currently sells for £30,000.

Liban hopes that his work will subvert the stereotype of Christmas clothes. He has broken the world record for the world's most expensive Christmas outfit. The last record was £24,000, and the work was completed in 2016 by Tipsy Elves with 24,274 crystals. Liban said he came up with the idea during last year's lockdown, when he lived alone in London and worked part-time at a charity. In total, he spent more than 3,000 hours making the dress, and wanted to donate a portion of the money from the sale to the NHS. "I've always wanted to create something gorgeous and compelling, and now I'm really doing it," he said. ”

Liban began production in December 2020 and he's going to finish it by Christmas in 2021. Because there was only time in the evenings and on weekends, he didn't finish the dress until last month. Liban said that no matter who bought the dress, if it was actually worn, it could not be washed because the pullover was very "delicate". He spent £200 to order 24 carats of silk thread from a French specialist boutique, Swarovski crystals for around £1,000 and silk linings for £200. The 150 diamonds near the neckline were bought from an expert and were worth £5,000.

"There is nothing to save. Except for a few very small places, I almost always make it myself. The main body of this suit is made of wool and cotton. The lining is gorgeous silk and soft to the touch. Diamonds have some minor imperfections and are not suitable for jewelry, but are perfect for making clothes. It took me a long time to find the right diamond. ”

The dress also hides a small mystery: a closer look reveals a Swarovski gold necklace around the reindeer's neck. "It's an interesting and novel piece, something of this quality that's rare and very exciting. I hope it will amaze people and break stereotypes of our past. I kept most of my friends and family secrets during production, and when I made it, they were all hooked. (Compiled and reported by China Youth Network)
