author:Chief Physician Wu Gang of interventional medicine

Hello everyone! I am Wu Gang, Department of Interventional Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University

Malignant obstructive jaundice is jaundice formed by bile duct carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic head cancer, etc. that compress or invade the bile ducts, resulting in increased biliary pressure and reverse flow of bile into the blood. Patients often present with jaundice, skin itching, loss of appetite, etc., and long-term obstruction of bile can lead to stasis and liver failure.

Interventional therapy: minimally invasive interventional therapy places a drainage tube in the biliary obstruction section and the bile is drained out of the body through the drainage tube. Percutaneous transhepatic puncture biliary drainage has significantly improved the reduction of jaundice, improvement of quality of life, and prolongation of life in patients with malignant obstructive jaundice. Minimally invasive interventional therapy is considered the first choice for palliative care in patients with poor general condition, older age, and inability to tolerate conventional surgical treatment.
