According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 26, 2021, on November 25, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Maldives Foreign Minister Shahid, in Anji, Zhejiang Province.
Wang Yi said that last month, we solemnly held a commemorative meeting for the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the legitimate seat of the United Nations in New China, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech, and Secretary-General Guterres specially attended. This is a major event in the history of the development of the United Nations. The People's Republic of China has returned to the United Nations, international fairness and justice have been upheld, and the world's largest intergovernmental international organization has truly become representative and authoritative. These 50 years are also 50 years of China's peaceful development and benefit to mankind. China will continue to be a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order, adhering to openness and not engaging in closure; adhering to mutual benefit and win-win results and not engaging in zero-sum; persisting in upholding justice and upholding justice, and opposing any unilateralism and power politics. China will always stand on the right side of history and on the side of human progress.
Wang Yi said: Upholding multilateralism has become a broad consensus, and engaging in unilateralism, drawing lines with ideology, and provoking clique antagonism does not conform to the trend of the times. Under the framework of the United Nations, every country is equal, every country's voice is important, and every country's vote is valid. It is necessary to adhere to joint consultation, joint construction and sharing, and all countries should jointly safeguard universal security, share the fruits of development, and jointly control the destiny of the world. Engaging in "small courtyards and high walls" and pulling small circles cannot solve national problems, let alone cope with global challenges. If there is competition between the great powers, it is better than who has contributed more to mankind and who cooperates better with developing countries, not than a voice, let alone a fist.
Wang Yi said: The United Nations should become a defender of fairness and justice, not a bystander of hegemony and bullying; it should become a big stage for practicing multilateralism rather than an arena for the game of great powers; and it should become an activist who copes with challenges, rather than a talking hall for sitting and talking.
Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping recently put forward a global development initiative, which received warm response and support from the international community. We welcome all parties to participate in this open initiative to promote more countries to pay attention to development issues, form a greater synergy, and accelerate the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Shahid congratulated the People's Republic of China on the 50th anniversary of its restoration of its legitimate seat in the United Nations, highly appreciated China's unwavering support for the United Nations and multilateralism, and positively evaluated China's outstanding leadership in safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and responding to global challenges. Shahid said that he agrees with the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and firmly believes that unilateralism has no market. President Xi Jinping's global development initiative is opportune and of great significance to accelerating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and bringing hope to all mankind. The United Nations is deeply encouraged by China's global vaccine cooperation program, and China, as a key provider of vaccines, has played an indispensable role in bridging the "vaccine divide". China strongly supports South-South and trilateral cooperation and fulfills its commitment to always belong to developing countries at the United Nations. The current session of the General Assembly is willing to strengthen cooperation with China to jointly safeguard fairness and justice, jointly practice multilateralism, jointly address global challenges and safeguard the authority and credibility of the United Nations.
The two sides also exchanged views on green development and climate change. Wang Yi said that the construction of ecological civilization has been written into the constitution of the Communist Party of China and the national constitution, which has not only become the national will of China, but also the solemn commitment of the ruling party to the people. The important concept of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" was put forward by President Xi Jinping when he inspected Anji, Zhejiang Province, where we are now located. Now, this concept has become the consensus and action of the whole Chinese society. China will adhere to the path of ecological priority, green and low-carbon development, protect in development, develop in protection, and achieve sustainable economic and social development.
Shahid appreciated China's leading role in promoting global green and low-carbon development, and spoke highly of China's support and assistance to small island states in addressing climate change. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and, together with developing countries, urge developed countries to earnestly fulfill their funding commitments and jointly promote the full and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement.
The two sides also exchanged views on UN machinery, including the reform of the Security Council. Wang Yi stressed that the reform of the Security Council should adhere to the leadership of member states, adhere to the consensus on an equal footing, adhere to the broadest consensus, and insist on increasing the representation and voice of developing countries.
