On the interpretation of Rhinoceros

author:Xiao Wang's movie recommendation

Dürer's Rhinoceros is one of the most famous paintings of the Renaissance.

In 1515, the Sultan of India gave the Portuguese governor a gift, an Indian rhinoceros. There was no rhinoceros in Europe at that time, and this precious rhino came to Portugal after 120 days of sailing. The Portuguese governor borrowed flowers to offer Buddha, and wanted to send the rhinoceros to Italy, but unfortunately, there was a shipwreck on the way, and the rhinoceros was also killed in the sea. Dürer, who lived in Italy, had not actually seen a real rhinoceros, but he had crafted a woodcut based on a sketch of a rhinoceros. The painting was later reprinted and sold so much in Europe that everyone thought that the rhinoceros on the painting was the real rhinoceros.

No one has ever seen a rhinoceros that has lost its life in the sea, but everyone is pursuing the imaginary rhinoceros. It's a lot like when you like someone. Sometimes, we are obsessed not with things themselves, but with illusions that transcend reality.
