Beijing, 23 Nov (China News Service) -- At 7:45 a.m. on 23 November, China successfully launched the Gaofen-3 02 satellite with the Long March 4 C carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This will further enhance China's satellite sea and land observation capabilities, serve the construction of a maritime power and support the "Belt and Road" initiative.

According to reports, Gaofen No. 3 02 satellite is a business star in the "National Civil Space Infrastructure Medium and Long-term Development Plan (2015-2025)", operating in a 755-kilometer high sun-synchronous relapse orbit, the main payload is C-band synthetic aperture radar. Developed by the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the satellite is China's second integrated aperture radar satellite for land and sea surveillance and monitoring, and the first land and sea surveillance and monitoring business satellite for space infrastructure.

The main task of Gaofen No. 3 02 satellite is to meet the detection and application needs of the global ocean and land in the fields of ocean, disaster reduction, land, geology, environmental protection, water conservancy, agriculture, meteorology and other fields, and to provide users with timely, reliable and stable high resolution, large width, multi-polarization, quantitative synthetic aperture radar image products.

After entering orbit, Gaofen-3 02 satellite will carry out all-weather and all-weather sea and land surveillance and monitoring, continuously provide high-quality multi-polar synthetic aperture radar satellite images, and operate with the Gaofen-3 satellite network to jointly form China's land and sea surveillance and monitoring network. Compared with the Gaofen-3 satellite, the Gaofen-3 02 satellite has improved the image quality, increased the on-satellite real-time imaging, object detection and global ship monitoring capabilities, and greatly improved the continuous imaging time.

The satellite is equipped with C-band multi-polarization synthetic aperture radar subsystem and ship automatic recognition (AIS) subsystem, the image resolution can reach 1 meter, is currently the world's highest resolution C-band multi-polarization synthetic aperture radar satellite, image quality reached the international leading level of similar.

After the network operation of Gaofen-3 02 satellite and Gaofen-3 satellites, the average revisit period is shortened from 0.6 days to 0.3 days, and its operation in orbit will further meet China's current needs for continuous acquisition of high-resolution, multi-polar synthetic aperture radar image data and high timeliness, and alleviate the task pressure of Gaofen-3 satellite's orbital saturation work.

It is reported that the Gaofen-3 02 satellite project is organized and managed by the China National Space Administration, and the China National Space Administration's Earth Observation and Data Center is responsible for mission planning and data management. Gaofen No. 3 02 Satellite will serve China's "marine power" strategy, provide strong support for "understanding the ocean, economic and strategic ocean and development and utilization of the ocean", effectively promote the construction of China's marine power, and lay a solid foundation for China's implementation of marine development, land resource monitoring and emergency disaster reduction business applications.
