Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV postponed release

The following is an automatic view of Blizzard's third quarter earnings report.

Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV are delayed again. Note that strictly speaking, these two games can't be called jump tickets – games that have no score when they are officially released can't be said by anyone now, let alone skip tickets.

On mobile platforms, Diablo: Immortal is in public beta and is expected to be released in the first half of next year. As for Diablo IV, I really don't have much to say, the Lifetime series.

Diablo 2 Reset released in September, with mixed reviews. Personally, the author's personal view of the game content is also passable, but the server is really difficult to describe in words.

Warcraft and Hearthstone don't have any wind.

The Long "Watch"

Overwatch 2 is, after all, Blizzard's main development project at the moment, and it needs to supply Activision Blizzard's main esports event: OWL. Coupled with the fact that the original Overwatch generation has not changed for many years, the game environment, heat and even wind reviews are a bit unbearable, so the launch of Overwatch 2 is imperative.

From the 2021 Overwatch League Annual Finals, overwatch 2PVP demo. So far, a few heroes have been redone, such as Fortress and Shadow, and several heroes have had their skills adjusted to varying degrees, such as Reinhardt and Chalia, but most of the heroes have copied data from overwatch's original generation. The biggest change is still the intuitive game rule change, "5v5". However, looking at the PVP part, the current development results of Overwatch 2 can hardly be called new, because in addition to the skill changes and the current very imperfect UI, compared with the original generation, there is no substantial difference and improvement. As shown in the image above, "vertical flying" has even been preserved. When the well-known anchor XQC watched the demonstration, he blurted out, it's the same.

However, what players are most concerned about is actually the PVE plot content that Blizzard has previously promised. But since that CG and limited PVE demonstration in 2019, Overwatch 2's PVE has been silent — nothing at all. In view of the 2nd generation PVP part with the first priority, the development schedule is falling behind expectations - the PVP module must be completed in time to ensure the operation of the league, and the development progress of PVE is really not optimistic. Previously, the author's most optimistic estimate is that by next year, Blizzard can at least make the PVP module, and it must be a stable state that allows the operation of professional events, along with the existing PVE content released first - three years can always do something - in the future, if there is a heart, then supplement the PVE content in the form of expansion packages. However, Blizzard clearly does not mean this, the prospects are not yet possible to say, and whether or not to see the prospects in 2022 is a question.

Since the Overwatch League is said, the prospects for the league are not optimistic. Previously, Blizzard promised that the 2022 season would play with the early framework of Overwatch 2, "early build". There are many optimists who interpret this as overwatch 2 going on sale before April next year, at least on pre-sale. It's impossible now.

The Overwatch League faces three options: play the 2022 season on the overwatch premiere; take an indefinite break for overwatch 2 release; and get the PVP module out as soon as possible, "League Exclusive". Given that overwatch's original generation has "not changed over the years", the first two options will face a tidal wave of accusations and dissatisfaction, and from players to investors, the third option faces terrifying difficulties – in fact, unprecedented.

The response of community management to the so-called "2023 release" remarks was ambiguous, saying only that the earnings report did not convey the release date or test date in 2023, there was no affirmation or denial, and it seemed pale in front of the negative emotions like a "thousand layers of waves".

The 2022 Blizzard Carnival is on hold

We decided to suspend the scheduled Blizzard Carnival early next year. It was a tough decision for all of us, but it was the right one.

Each carnival comes from each of our employees, unites the efforts of the entire company, and we are eager to share our results with the communities we care about. At the moment, we believe that the energy needed to host such a show would be best diverted to supporting our game team and advancing our game development to improve the gaming experience.

We also want to take the time to reimagine what the carnival will look like in the future. The first Blizzard Carnival was held 16 years ago, and times have changed rapidly since then – players and communities can come together in many ways to find where they belong. Whatever the future event looks like, we also need to make sure it's as safe, inclusive and welcome as possible. We are committed to working closely with our players and we believe Blizzard Carnival will play an important role in the future. Looking to the future, the mood is high.

We'd also like to clarify one thing: even if we don't have the carnival as scheduled in February next year, we'll still be releasing our game feed. We are proud of our team and the results they have achieved. We have a lot of exciting news and content releases waiting to be shared. You will continue to hear this through our franchise channels, and the leaders of the Blizzard Fiesta team will go out of their way to support.

Miss you guys, but don't worry, we'll be back soon.

Most likely, it's gone. When Blizzard announced the cancellation of the 2021 Carnival at the end of May this year, it had stated that the 2022 Carnival would be dominated by online programs, supplemented by small-scale offline invitational gatherings. The shelved news of this carnival, combined with the various embarrassments and criticisms of Activision Blizzard in recent years - a bunch of eyebrow-burning lawsuits, "not changed over the years", the loss of users and heat, etc., make people feel that Blizzard can't help but think that Blizzard can't come up with something that can be counted on the carnival

Especially in recent months, the lawsuit and the controversy that have ensued, Blizzard Entertainment's organizational structure has been violently and protracted, and it is self-deception to say that there is no impact on the development progress of the game. Most of the staff involved in the scandal are senior elders of Blizzard, and it can be traced back to the arrival of Activision, Blizzard's wind rating has fallen to the bottom. Since the California government filed several sexual crime charges in late July, many Blizzard executives, especially game development executives, have seen a large number of dismissals and departures. Every month, there are a few senior designers, directors and even presidents, no matter which company or which game can not be eaten.

Jen Oneal, one of Blizzard Entertainment's two co-leaders, has been a co-leader since August, former president J. After leaving due to lawsuits, Allen Brack took over the leadership of Blizzard with Mike Ybarra for only three months, announcing his departure in early November.
