I was born in the early sixties, and as for how poor my family was when I was a child, I can see the panoramic view from the food, clothing, shelter and transportation at that time.
Clothing, that is, the clothes worn. I was the youngest in the family, and since I can remember, I have been wearing the old clothes of my brothers and sisters, wearing major changes and repairs. When I was a child, I never had the concept of underwear or socks. In winter, cotton clothes and cotton pants are sewn by the mother under the kerosene lamp, and it is very warm to wear on the body, but because there is no underwear cool breeze directly from the pants cuffs, it is cold; in the spring, take off the cotton clothes and cotton pants and wear two pairs of single pants; in the summer, a pair of shorts can cope; in the autumn, take out the spring clothes and put them on. This is true all year round. It wasn't until the early 1980s that my parents gritted their teeth and bought a new outfit and changed into a new outfit.
Food, that is, the first element of life------ food. When I was a child, hunger was often a thing, and the most important thing I looked forward to was the New Year, followed by the hope that there were red and white happy events in the family, and only these two days could eat a few meals beautifully, at least I could eat enough, and I could also eat some meat. Usual meals are arranged according to the seasons of farming time, rice can only be eaten during the New Year, white noodles can occasionally be seen, corn flour, white potato noodles were the main foods when I was a child.
To live is to live. When I was a child, my family house had three and a half rooms, and the adobe houses built by the predecessors before liberation were built by themselves. The middle hall house, which doubles as a dining room and kitchen, the east room is a clay kang, which is the bedroom of our parents and our unmarried brothers and sisters, and the west room is a clay kang, which is the new house for the brother to get married, and the brothers generally separate the family for a year after marriage, go out single, and the vacated west room can be used as a new house for the next brother to get married.
Row, that is, a means of transportation. When I was a child, I felt the most comfortable walking to a relative's house to take a ox cart, although it was slow, but the family was also very comfortable talking and laughing. Usually, when we go to the city to catch up with the market and go to the field to do farm work, we all walked, and at that time we all practiced a pair of iron feet. Bicycles were luxury jewelry at the time, and if anyone had a bicycle, it was easy for sons to marry their daughters-in-law. I remember that my neighbor bought a "flying pigeon" brand bicycle at that time, and the owner of the family also preached it in the neighbors every day, and never saw their family ride the bicycle out. Later, someone went to his house to find that the bicycle was tightly wrapped and hung on the beam of his house. Later, several daughters-in-law married into the family, said to put down the bicycle for everyone to ride, open it, the bicycle in the kitchen after several years of smoke and fire are rusty, into a pile of scrap iron.
Even though it was a poor life, people were still happy. In the production team, people happily go to work, spend the Spring Festival, and people leisurely watch the drama and entertain guests. When we were young, we were more unrestrained and played happily every day.
