Home care needs more "canteens for the elderly"

author:Civilized Zhanjiang

On November 16, the zhanjiang daily public account reported that the "elderly canteen" in Chen Tie Village, Haitou Street, Xiashan Mountain, ushered in the "first birthday".

Since its opening on November 13, 2020, the "Canteen for the Elderly" in Chen Tie Village has provided free lunch and dinner every day to the elderly aged 70 or above who are registered in the Chen Tie Village Committee (including Chen Tie Shang Village, Chen Tie Village, and Guanying Village). The canteen also provides fitness and entertainment facilities such as treadmills; it insists on free delivery of meals to the elderly with limited mobility and the five insurance households in the village. It can be said that the "canteen for the elderly" in Chen Tiecun has brought us a useful exploration to promote home care.

Nowadays, the aging trend is becoming more and more obvious, and the elderly need a good solution for the elderly. According to survey data, the demand rate of the elderly for home-based community-based old-age care is as high as 84.18%. To promote the home-based community-based old-age care, a major problem is to "eat". No matter how troublesome, three meals a day must be prepared. Children have no time to go to work, and the "task" of three meals a day can only return to the elderly. However, many elderly people have limited mobility, hands and feet are not very flexible, the kitchen in and out of the must be careful, buying vegetables, cooking, washing dishes are troublesome, for this bite of rice, a day is busy outside. In addition, the high-temperature cooking environment in the kitchen is also easy to induce some acute diseases. Young people easily "call takeaway" to deal with a meal model, for most of the elderly is not very acceptable, one is not going to use, unwilling to use mobile phone takeaway APP, the second is a long-term formation of living habits, think that eating takeaway is not healthy. Therefore, considering all aspects of factors, it is necessary to promote the construction of "canteens for the elderly".

In the construction of the "canteen for the elderly", Zhanjiang has been working hard to explore. As early as October 2018, the Mazhanghuangwai community set up a "canteen for the elderly", implementing the model of "collective organization, villagers' autonomy, self-protection, and mutual assistance services", and providing free meal assistance services for the elderly over 70 years old in the village by using the village's economic income. At the end of the same year, the Shuidian community in Leizhou Xincheng Street began to prepare for the "Elderly Canteen", and through the renovation of the original community office, the first county-level "Elderly Canteen" in Zhanjiang was completed and put into use in May 2019, which adopted the model of "community collective economic security, charity support, and donations from all walks of life". The "Canteen for the Elderly" in Chen Tie Village, which was set up in November 2020, is reportedly "founded by the villagers of Chen Tie Village, Li Jianhua, the former national champion of webbed swimming, and co-founded by all social forces", and at present, "the use of the entire canteen ... It was all borne by Li Jianhua and his younger brother Li Jianfeng." It can be said that the operating models of these three "elderly canteens" are different, which has brought a diversified path to Zhanjiang's exploration of the construction of "elderly canteens". I don't know how many "canteens for the elderly" there are in Zhanjiang at present? What happened to the other "canteens for the elderly"?

At present, many cities in China are exploring the "canteen for the elderly", which not only allows the elderly to eat delicious and nutritious hot meals, but also provides a platform for "eating and socializing" to improve the happiness of the elderly. But at the same time, it also faces many challenges, such as some canteens lack long-term consideration in terms of cost, customer size, price and other factors, and eventually take the lead; some canteens rely heavily on subsidies, do not mobilize all parties to work together, and lose a lot of money; some canteens have low service levels, causing dissatisfaction among the elderly. In dealing with these problems, Guangzhou has come up with a good way. According to media data, as of 2020, there are 1,036 "canteens for the elderly" in Guangzhou, covering the city's streets, towns, and villages, and the satisfaction rate of meal assistance services exceeds 90%. The canteen of the existing unit is used to provide "big meal matching" services, so that the elderly can eat in the vicinity. Moreover, two service leaders are arranged to follow up the cooking of meals in the "central kitchen" every day, supervise and check the health and safety of ingredients and the production process, and remind the staff to carefully divide meals and pack. These good experiences in operations management are worth learning.

It is expected that zhanjiang will have more "canteens for the elderly", which can cover more street communities and let the elderly have a greater sense of gain and happiness in the home care. (Zhanjiang Daily Ye Shuyun)
