During this time, the Beijing Book Building at the intersection of Xidan Road not only comprehensively upgraded the store to make the reading environment more stylish and comfortable, but also launched two new services - children's book lending and shared study. The reporter's visit found that although these new businesses are still in the exploratory stage, they have been unanimously praised by readers and have become a new reading landscape in a large-scale book city.
More than 10,000 children's books were borrowed in two months, and young children's books were the most popular
Every weekend or winter and summer vacation, the children's area on the third floor of the building will always attract many parents to bring their children to read books. A variety of children's picture books and children's books make children fall in love with them, but because the price is "too much to eat" or the content of picture books is too small, many parents will not buy their children's favorite books at home.
How can children have the opportunity to read more books? In September this year, the building tried to launch a "children's book lending" service. "In the past two months, more than 700 borrowing cards have been processed, and more than 10,000 books have been borrowed. Among them, young children's books accounted for 47.9%, teenagers accounted for 34.7%, and cartoons and popular science books accounted for 17.4%. Qin Hui, deputy general manager of Beijing Book Building, introduced that in addition to fragile books such as colored books, handmade books, and toy books, most of the books in the children's area are available for borrowing, "There are about 20,000 kinds of books to borrow, including children's picture books, children's literature, youth literature, natural museums, humanistic history, comics, Chinese originals, etc. Children aged 0-12 can find books that suit them." ”
Once these new books are borrowed, they are affixed by staff members. Books that have been professionally disinfected after return will be placed in a special children's book lending area. The entire lending area is about 300 square meters, and the walls are decorated with the pattern of "Sea of Stars", which attracts the attention of children. The borrowing area not only handles the procedures for borrowing and returning books, but also provides a comfortable reading environment. Cartoon chairs in the shape of animals, futon stools that can be placed at will, small round tables suitable for parent-child reading... Here, parents and children can find the most comfortable way to immerse themselves in the world of books.
"I happened to see this borrowing service when I was visiting the bookstore, and I applied for a card at that time." The shared study creates a quiet reading space where readers can soak up all day
Compared with the bustle of the children's book lending area, the newly opened shared study on the third floor of the building is another quiet reading space.
If you want to use the shared study, you need to make an appointment for seat selection on the "Xidan Shared Study" Mini Program in advance, and click the smart door lock after placing an order and paying to enter. The reporter saw that this space of about 100 square meters was divided into three areas, including the Yousi imagination area for three or five friends to discuss and learn, there are also deep immersion areas suitable for independent thinking and office, and relatively private VIP rooms. At the same time, the study room is also equipped with ergonomically designed tables and chairs, lockers, and exclusive free WIFI, self-service printers, paid drinks, etc., providing comfortable and convenient services for learning and office.
According to the "Analysis of the Scale, Prospect and Trend of the Development of Paid Study Rooms in China in 2021", as of 2019, an average of 439,000 people in China share a library, and the public reading space cannot meet the needs of society, and many readers choose paid study rooms. Beijing Book Building conducted a thorough survey according to the reading needs of surrounding readers, and on the basis of increasing the free reading space, in order to better serve special readers, the "Shared Study" was created at the end of August this year.
