I am 90 years old this year, since the first construction of the Chinese women's volleyball team bamboo shed hall in 1972, I came to the Zhangzhou Sports Training Base and witnessed the "five consecutive championships" feat of the Chinese women's volleyball team.
I still remember that during the "five consecutive championships", after the women's volleyball team won the championship every time, the streets and alleys of Zhangzhou City beat gongs and drums, and the base was plastered with celebratory slogans, which I wrote by hand word by word. When the women's volleyball team came to the base for training, the compound was already crowded with people who came to welcome them, standing on both sides of the gate of the southern area of the base to welcome the women's volleyball girls, which was very lively. The base also held a celebration banquet for the women's volleyball girls, and the wedding of the women's volleyball team member Zhou Xiaolan was held in the Zhangzhou base, so the Zhangzhou base was called "mother's family" by the women's volleyball girls.

The championship of the Chinese women's volleyball team is really hard-won. At the beginning of the establishment of the base, the national women's volleyball team came to the training at more than 4 a.m. by train arriving at Zhangzhou Station. At that time, there was no platform, and the team members jumped directly from the train in large bags and small bags, and when they arrived at the base, due to the tightness of the dormitory, there were four or five people living in a dormitory, and some of the team members had to live in the conference room. Before the team members went to training, they would also bring out the large washbasin in the dormitory and put it in the hall of the athletes' building. The whole hall is covered with washbasins, and the momentum is huge, just so that you can directly take the washbasin to wash after the training. At that time, the amount of training of women's volleyball players was really large and could bear hardships. Cao Huiying injured 6 of her 10 fingers, and now her little thumb can't be bent; Li Guizhi was punished by Coach Yuan Weimin for 150 slam training, and has been practicing until she is exhausted and can't meet the requirements, and many people in the base are useless to intercede, and finally insist on completing the training requirements.
The brilliant results of the "five consecutive championships" achieved by the women's volleyball team continue to inspire me. Now whether it is the old players of the women's volleyball team or the young players call me Uncle Gu, during the 2021 Zhangzhou training of the Chinese women's volleyball team, coach Lang Ping also came to the nursing home to visit me, which made me very moved. Born in the mid-to-late 1960s, my contemporaries and I had the privilege of becoming sons and daughters of the first generation of reform and opening up. I look for my first encounter with the Chinese women's volleyball team in my memory. In 1981, 1982 and 1984, the Chinese women's volleyball team won the World Cup for the first time, the World Championship and achieved three consecutive Olympic championships. At that time, the countryside in northern Jiangsu where I lived was still isolated. But I believe I know the women's volleyball team, I remember our speech competition, our composition, have told and written the story of the "spirit of the women's volleyball team".
In 1985, the fourth World Cup. I went from rural junior high school to county high school. The Chinese women's volleyball team is suddenly so close, and the news of their victory is no longer just coming from afar. Now, I teach literature at Nanjing Normal University, where Hui Ruoqi, Zhang Changning, and Gong Xiangyu studied, and perhaps more than once I passed by them on campus. On November 16 of that year, the due date of the lover's delivery was approaching. On that day, there was snow in the small border town where I lived, and I rode my car and lunch box to the hospital a few kilometers away. Riding to the square in front of the train station, huge radio horns are broadcasting the grand final of the third women's volleyball World Cup. People stopped, gathered, and listened to this exciting game together, and I temporarily forgot my real destination and joined the crowd. When the Chinese women's volleyball girls saved multiple match points and fixed the score at the 17-15 victory, the whole square boiled over, and many people were left with tears of excitement. A few hours later, our daughter was born.
In the years when my daughter was growing up, the family would often make fun of this matter, and every time my daughter would proudly respond that she was "waiting for this victory before she was born", in fact, in my heart, I hope that my daughter can have the same fighting against the wind and constantly surpassing herself with the Chinese women's volleyball team. My daughter's 40th birthday is coming, and let me recall the story of me and this game, and I am also pleased to see that my daughter does have a little spirit of the women's volleyball team, whether studying or working, she is solid and diligent, fearless, tenacious, hard working, brave to climb the peak... In the end, the Chinese women's volleyball team won the Olympic championship again after twenty years, and everyone in the office seemed to have forgotten that they had not closed their eyes for nearly 48 hours under such an atmosphere, and continued to work with blood boiling for a day and night.
From 1981, the Chinese women's volleyball team climbed to the top of the world volleyball world, until the 1982 World Championships, the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the 1985 World Cup and the 1986 World Championships successfully forged the "five consecutive championships" great cause, but as fans, we can not imagine that we have waited for the second women's volleyball Olympic champion for 20 years. At that time, the Beihang women's volleyball team was a college women's volleyball team, but it also experienced many ups and downs. We have won the championship through everyone's hard work in difficult times, and we have also missed victories in some important games. Many times when I encountered difficulties, I always habitually looked at Yang Haojie, hoping to get some new ideas from her. At the same time, I will constantly remind myself to focus on each ball and strive to find breakthroughs and changes from it. Although we were so desperate that the ending could be reversed, and sometimes we couldn't do anything about it, in any case, I didn't have any thoughts of giving up because of the pressure that came with the game. Looking back on my college career, I was surrounded by the spirit of the women's volleyball team all the time. That perseverance, hard work is closely linked to my life.
With the progress of the times, the spirit of the women's volleyball team in my heart is also advancing with the times. In the summer of 2016, when I was a graduate student in the United States, I "forced" two of my Malaysian roommates to accompany me to watch the Rio Olympic women's volleyball quarterfinals. The roommates didn't know anything about volleyball, but they were infected by me. The Decider Chinese women's volleyball team and the Brazilian women's volleyball team once fought to 10 draws, I ran to the bathroom and did not dare to come out to see, until the Chinese women's volleyball team won the game 15-13, I ran out like a child "cheering", as if winning the world. In 2004, due to my personal strengths and love for volleyball, I served as the head coach of the Peking University women's volleyball team, and under the continuous efforts of the first team members, the Peking University women's volleyball team won 12 Beijing University Championships in succession.
